This isn't likely to make it into DOSBox officially, but just posting it here for anybody who needs it. It's only a simple patch anyway.

It adds a "files" setting to the "[dos]" section of dosbox.conf. I don't know of any games that need a higher number than the default of 127, but I do have several applications that do. ("Exact" for DOS and certain DB applications).
