Hi all,

I'm trying to get Warcraft II (Tides of Darkness) to run on my PC, (windows 7.) I installed DOSBox and followed the instructions here: http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Basic_Setup_and_In … ation_of_DosBox . DOSBox then told me I could run warcraft by typing "War2," so thats what I did. This is the screen that came up:

then, I hit any key in that screen, and I'm booted back to DOSBox, with the text
"Bad Command or file name
Cracked by Hybrid 1995-12-04.... [HOSON is very tired right now.. 2:45 AM]"

Seems like a very irregular error message to me! Does anybody know how I can get this to work?? (also note, this is where I got the original warcraft file from: http://www.bestoldgames.net/eng/old-games/warcraft-2.php) Or any other method of getting warcraft II to play on windows 7 😁

@DosFreak,

I didn't mean to offend you or do anything wrong... I just assumed since the game was so old and blizzard isn't selling it anymore (I don't see it on the website, do you?) that they wouldn't care if I took an online copy. For that matter, I once owned the game on a CD, (it may or may not be lost, perhaps I'll go look for it) so I would think that legitimizes my download, as well. Sorry to cause a stir.

It's still copyrighted (so disallowed to "just download" it) unless the copyright holder explicitly states otherwise.
