Hello

I´m new here and my English is not the best (I´m from Bavaria in Germany), sorry.

But perhaps somebody can help me. After a crash of my XP-computer I have to change to a Windows-7 machine. I use some very old, but still very good versions of the DataEase-database-programm, but this does not start in Windows-7 like it did in XP.

So I installed DOS-Box (I´m not very good in computers) and after a lot of try-and-error I managed to start DataEase, a little slow, but it works.

The problem is, that I need the numeric keyboard and even if I press the NUM several times it does not work. The other things of the keyboard like the German language work fine meanwhile.

What can I do?

Thank you very much in advance and greetings from the Bavarian alps
Peter

Yes, I know, but its the only software that also can handle DataEase, all others failed

Try a virtual machine, Virtualbox comes to mind.

the numlock problem will be fixed in the next version.
Although you should really not use DOSBox for important stuff. It is has intentional shortcommings with regards to accuracy in order to get more speed in games.

Oh, thank you. When will the next version be published?

The problem is, that DOSBox is the only software I found that runs DataEase without greater problems - and I tried a lot.

The Dataease-Software and data are stored in my small NAS-System and I had used it with 2 XP-computers until now (starting in 1986 and only updated some times in the 1990th and for the Year-2000-problem. But in the heat of the last days one of my computers crashed and so I had to switch to Windows7. Until now I found no problems with shortcommings or so, everything works fine and the programm/database is still available for my old XP-machine. Could there really be a problem?

That seems unlikely. What exactly did you try, and what happened that led you to believe that it does not work?

If there are problems in VirtualBox or VMware, there might well be more subtle problems in DOSBox.

Ok, today I took much time to try VMWare again and now it works.

The problem is only, that the DOS-programm DataEase is shown in a rather small window. I tried many things like full screen, maximized etc. but it does not change - not good for a large database. In DOS-Box its not a problem to work full-screen.

Don't ask, as the next version's first publishing date will be paused another two weeks. 😉
Maybe an SVN version will include the required change soon, for now:
