I have DosBox .61 and all my games have sound stuttering. I have a 2.8GHZ pentium 4 and a Soundblaster live 5.1. The IRQ of my sound card is 17. The sound IRQ for DosBox is 7. Is this my problem. Any help would be appriciated.

There are two known cases which can cause this problem on massive scale:
- SDL: try to use different version of SDL.DLL.
- non USB joystick: disconnect it
If neither of this helps, then you can have e.g. too high number of cycles or you are trying to run too resource demanding games.
Remember that if you go to high with cycles, sound will skip. Read the "DOSBOX Guides" forum.
What games do you have problem with? What are your settings in DOSBOX? Information is needed if we should help you.

If I connect a usb joystick will it then work with my old games and DosBox?

Yes, according to other people here it should work ok (I do not use joystick myself). Just remember that there are still some games where joystick does not work as it should.
