Hi

I have gotten hold of below system:

EPOX-EPMVP3G2
AMD K6-2+ 550@600MHz
128MB SDRAM
4GB HDD
ATI Rage Pro Turbo 8MB AGP

It seems I am experiencing performance issues under MS-DOS

In Quake timedemo my results are:
320x200: 86,8fps
640x480: 11,3fps

I also ran a couple of other tests, 3Dbench, PCPlayer benchmark, DOOM etc (Phils dosbench package). I do not have the figures in my head but resuls seemed low also here.

I understand there is a patch you can run to improve DOS performance, but still the results seem low.

Is it reasonable to think that the VGA-card is slow in MS-DOS compared to for example a Voodoo 3?

You're going to need to run the equivalent of FASTVID for K6 CPUs. I believe Phil had a video on it, K6WCX ? I can't recall off the top of my head, but there is a utility and it will boost your performance greatly. This is normal, try running Quake on a Pentium 2-3 without FASTVID and you'll see terrible performance in higher resolutions as well.

DOS K6 Boost: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_QTIadLd1w

Your benchmark numbers look pretty accurate. With the boost, expect another 5fps or so with Quake at 640x480.
