I can't seem to get Wasteland to play properly. I'm running it
on a Dell Optiplex GL620 (Pentium D 3.4Ghz), 2G memory, 80G hdd, ATI
Radeon X600 (256M RAM), XP SP2, Soundmax (or whatever is
default to Dell, probably onboard).

Game: Wasteland

Problem: I'll play the game for about 10 minutes or so & no matter
what I am doing, the system will lock up. I can be on the main
campaign map in the game, or in the character creation menu, or
anywhere & it the screen hangs. I've also slowed the CPU down
to see if that would help, but there were no changes.

Reproducibility: Always. 100%.

Sound mode used: Default to Dosbox

Video mode: Default XP (1024x768 res, 16-bit)

DOSBox version: 0.70.

Please help or offer advice.

Thanks,
Snake.

I think I've resolved this issue. I followed the README.TXT for game hangs. I think it's the sound settings. Perhaps Wasteland only likes it if you have a PC Speaker. I simply ran every command given in the Readme guide for the game hang & so far so good.

Hi WD,

It appeared to crash using the default settings in DOSbox. It seemed to
happen after about 10 minutes of play. I think it was occurring when doing
something such as transitioning from the area map to a town map or going
from one of the maps to an encounter. Wasteland would hang at that
point & not way out of it.

I never saw the error again after applying all the settings mentioned
in the troubleshooting a game hang section of the DOSbox readme.
