I have vista 64 bit and I have tried loading up the game through dosbox, I have it on CD and downloaded a version from the net, when I try the one through the CD I get to the CM2.exe part to load the game up and dosbox just closes, the downloaded version comes up saying it needs the CD!

Anyone got any ideas as I am truely a novice to this kind of thing and used the Basic Setup and Installation of DosBox page on the website.

edit: I have tried the 60 second guide and tried that, but the same thing happens, once installed it says type go to load up the game, I did that and dosbox closes.

No, that download is a patch to DOSBox sources.
The non-source CM2 patch is available from my site:
http://pferrie.tripod.com/misc/dosbox.htm
Download the cm2fix.zip, unzip that file into the CM2 directory, then run cm2fix.com instead of cm2.bat, each time you want to run the game.

Thanks for that and I have finally got it running! Problem now is everytime I want to play it I need to go through it and install it, on the 60 seconds guide page - 60 seconds guide to getting your game to run in DOSBox

it says:

If you have more than 60 seconds to spare, use Notepad to edit "%ProgramFiles%\DOSBox-0.72\dosbox.conf" and add the mount commands to the section named autoexec (at the bottom of the file):

I have tried finding the file but cannot find it anywhere, I have vista and have even tried doing a search but cannot find it!

use the shortcut in the startmenu of dosbox.

Haha bullseye!

The game is installed in
C:\Users\Aaron\Documents\DOSBox stuff\MyGame\CM2

Dosbox is installed in
C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.73

I have edited the dosbox.conf notepad file with:
[autoexec]
Z:\>mount C "C:\Users\aaron\Documents\DOSBox stuff\MyGame"
Z:\>mount i "i:" -t cdrom
C:

(I: drive is my DVD/CD drive)

and saved it as "MyGame-dosbox.conf" and put it in the CM2 file, I have changed the dosbox shortcut on my desktop to "C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.73\dosbox.exe" -conf "C:\Users\Aaron\Documents\DOSBox stuff\MyGame\CM2\MyGame-dosbox.conf" but it isn't working, I am probably missing something obvious.

I am sorry for being a pain in the ass with me being such a dummy on this stuff, but i really do appreciate your help!

but it isn't working

What isn't working? What does the console window of Dosbox say? (it should tell you which conf is used).
Anyway it should be
mount C "C:\Users\aaron\Documents\DOSBox stuff\MyGame"
mount d "i:\" -t cdrom

You should get 2 windows: The normal DOSBox window with Z: and status window. In the status window it should show which config file is being loaded (or not).

Or not indeed, I have loaded up both the original dosbox and the config one and both have the same status window 😢

1) Open a CMD-window and try this:

?:\> C:
C:\> cd "\Users\Aaron\Documents\DOSBox stuff\MyGame\CM2"
C:\> dir MyGame-dosbox.conf

Do you see your MyGame-dosbox.conf file?

2) Next:

C:\> "C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.73\dosbox.exe" -conf "MyGame-dosbox.conf"

Do the status window show that MyGame-dosbox.conf is being loaded?

3) Now try:

C:\> cd "\Program Files\DOSBox-0.73"
C:\> dosbox.exe -conf "C:\Users\Aaron\Documents\DOSBox stuff\MyGame\CM2\MyGame-dosbox.conf"

Do the status window show that MyGame-dosbox.conf is being loaded?

File not found.

The MyGame-dosbox.conf file is a notepad, so its a .txt file 😕

So? Then change your shortcut so it uses "MyGame-dosbox.conf.txt". How difficult can that be?
