After ~7 minutes of playing, DOSBox crashes, the system returns to the Windows desktop with no error message(s) present. OS = XP SP3

For those unfamiliar with the game:

Very funny. Seriously, any thoughts as to what would cause the game to run fine for ~7 minutes and then suddenly crash?

Where or what you are doing in the game does not matter. DOSBox crashes with no explanation or error window.

I think I remember someone bringing this up before. IIRC, disabling sound seemed to "fix" it.

Are you sure there's no message in the console output just before DOSBox closes? An "Exit to error" message usually appears in the console window if it is open; or if you run DOSBox with the -noconsole parameter, you can look in the stdout.txt file after it has closed.

The dog was in Hugo's House of Horrors (the first one), not sure about Whodunit (2) or Jungle of Doom (3). When you went into a room with him the computer would beep "How Much Is That Doggy In The Window" and he would eat you unless you did something, I forget what

I never got into Nitemare 3D but remember the graphics being really crappy

Maybe setting the core type to full or simple instead of dynamic? There is also a Windows 3.1 version of the game which runs great under Windows XP (and probably under Vista/7). It may have the sorriest graphics, but it's the best fun ever.

Not an option for some Vista users and many Win7 users. Sales of 64-bit Win7 comprise about half of the Win 7 market. Setting up Win3x in DOSBox or a VM seems like too much work for this game.

I reached to level 3 with no problem with dosbox 0.74. It didn't crash to me.

It's probably that Core type thing.

Nitemare 3d is still better than Daikatana.

In Daikatana, you can't save anywhere while Nitemare 3d can.
