Wanting a new "foundation" for my XP system so hoping for some suggestions. The Intel 35DP35 I have now
is too barebones therefore looking for something with a little more "muscle".

My current specs:

CPU: Intel E8600 3.33GHz. Duo Core 2
Motherboard: Intel DP35DP
Memory: 4GB 800MHz. DDR2 Corsair
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS9500
GPU: EVGA Geforce 470
Storage: TeamGroup T-Force Vulcan 512GB SSD
Sound Card: Creative Labs X-Fi Titanium PCi-E

Looking for something with beefier heatsinks, ps/2 connections, (2) PCi-E slots. Any ideas appreciated!

Asus P5N-E Intel Core 2 Duo 3.33ghz. 4GB DDR2 Geforce 470 1GB SB X-Fi Titanium 650W XP SP3
Intel SE440BX P3 450 256MB 80GB SSD Asus V7700 GF2 64mb SB 32pnp 350W 98SE
MSI x570 Gaming Pro Carbon Ryzen 3700x 32GB DDR4 Zotac RTX 3070 8GB WD Black 1TB 850W

Hey mate , I'd assume by 2 pci-e slots you mean 16x or full sized ? If so there is two options with crossfire or sli plus full speed or only half per slot.
Here is list you can choose from :

DOS: 166mmx/16mb/Y719/S3virge
DOS/95: PII333/128mb/AWE64/TNT2M64
Win98: P3 900/256mb/SB live/3dfx V3
Win Me: Athlon 1333/256mb/Audigy2/Geforce 2 GTS
Win XP: E8600/4096mb/SB X-fi/HD6850

A good LGA1366 setup would be even nicer than LGA775.

If you really want 2x x16 PCIe slots that can run at x16 at the same time on LGA775, the options are going to be pretty limited.

How about the ASUS P5E Deluxe? I thinkt it's a nice looking board.

P5Q boards are even better than P5K. I am using Asus P5Q Pro in my XP build. It can also work with Xeon-s after modification of lga and bios which I did.
LGA1366 boards are expensive and rare

The only reason I wanted (2) pci-e slots was for flexibility regarding placement of the sound card. The geforce 470 runs hot and didn't want
the sound card too close to it.

LGA1366 huh? Didn't even think of that one. Do you have a setup for reference?

Yes that one looks nice indeed, plus I can put the sound card farther away from the geforce.
The beefier heatsinks/piping will help with temps too.

I would go lga1366 but in my case i want/need: serial/parallel/fdd/ide+sata/pci-e and pci slots because it's a all in one win xp / win 7 machine for me and my main 'work horse'. Lga1366 boards that check all those boxes without additional cards to be added are hard to find (and besides some workstation ones that are not so 'bright', generally expensive on the market here) but P45/P43 lga775 boards are still fairly cheap and common. So it depends on what are your needs.
