Here you go, ask anything you like 😀

I am testing it in an ECS 915P-A motherboard.

Remind me, does this mobo only support pentium D?

Anyway, the adapter came to me with a special back plate with longer threaded sleeves and you have to remove the socket retainer. Past that, carefully install the heat sink, and it just works…

The pcb under it is very thick, idk how many layer, but I suspect a lot…

Interesting. But my mind misinterpreted what I was reading for a moment, and I thought "Socket 775 CPU in my P4P 800? That would be awesome!" Then I read it again.

Same, wishful thinking I suppose

It's theoretically possible.
What you might be able to find that does exist is a 479>478 adapter.

Actually, thinking about it, I believe only a handful of pins were rerouted. Probably within the skills of someone here to remake it and get built by pcbway.

775>478 would take a fair bit more work because almost every pin would need to be routed, and then there's the mechanical side (hsf).

Wow this pretty neat... and cursed, but still really neat. I'd be curious to see what the compatibility with Northwood chips would be like. Don't know if the 900 series chipsets would still have compatibility built in, but Northwood would probably work on those 865 LGA775 boards though that kinda defeats the point.

I believe the chipset protocol is basically the same. Maybe a bit faster (Eg 133 vs 100) but the same language.

The only issue would be microcode, which comes down to the board maker, or a bios mod.

Why would you want to put an older CPU in a newer board? Normally you would want to do the opposite.

Is this too much voodoo?

That's interesting for benchmarks mostly.

northwood works fine, previous owner was using one in it with same mobo.

What's the dip switch for ?

edit: it looks like a 12 layer pcb

Not sure, anyone have any infos?

Perhaps you had invested in a p4 EE and wanted a newer mobo and this adapter was cheap?

I doubt that many boards can provide required 1.75v for Willamette.

Interesting thing! At the very least you don’t have to consider changing your name to Sphere775 😀.

Found the manual.
Barely readable, but it looks like the jumpers are for FSB setting.

do a continuity measurement and see which pins/pads the dipswitch connects to.

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

Were you able to boot? I think that board was supposed to do Pentium D and P4.
