Hello everyone,

I am currently checking my ss7 boards to find the best Performance and Quality to pair it with a Voodoo 3 .

I am very happy with the Performance and stability of the soyo 5ema+ 1.1 board (via mpv3) but there is a downside. I wanted to check if i can get higher clocks than 500mhz @ the default setting of 1.8v.

However, the board does only support voltages from 2.0v+. I read online, that on some boards there were additional voltage settings that were not stated in the manual.

Does anybody know about these?

Check the VRM controller type and search for its datasheet online. From the table above I think it's very likely to be a HIP6004B or similar, and this would give you a multitude of voltages between 1.30 and 2.05V by keeping the fifth switch of SW2 to "on" position and playing with the combinations of switches 1...4.

Don't make any assumptions though, and I suggest you don't experiment with the K6-iii installed, but use a cheaper/more common CPU instead.

Be -very- careful with this, it is easy to make a mistake and fry a cpu.

That's it. Thank you so much for your replies. The technical referance for the conteoller is simply inverted to the manual of the board.
Im gonna try this soon.

So yeah. Worked great going from 1.8v (stock) to 1.65v (undervolted) @500mhz
-500mhz@1.8V: 3Dmark99max: 3D:3323/CPU: 7527
-500mhz@1.65V: 3Dmark99max: 3D:3368/CPU:7423
-500mhz@1.6V: no post

No miracles: 600mhz@2.0v
I am not planning on pushing it further.

Just a little update, if sb is interested in that. I also checked how deep i can go @ 550mhz.

550mhz@1.7v sounds pretty awesome. My typical benchmark suite was running without issues. But this has to be seen. Maybe I'll go with 1.75v, just to make sure. That is probably were i will run this cpu in the longterm.

Thank you very much again. That hint with the voltage regulator was perfect. I'm veey happy with this CPU on that board.
