How can one get a standard 486 ( 168-pin CPU ) to work in a 169-pin Intel overdrive socket ?

UP# pin on the 486SX CPU needs to be connected to ground. Sometimes there is a jumper on the board for that.

Pull the socket pin B14 low via ground this connects to the UP# pin on the 486SX.

Then you can use normal 486DX or DX2 CPU without need to buy a overdrive 487 which is expensive.

Pull low means make the signal low ( = logical zero) by connecting it to ground.
