It turns out that ASC Media Master standard is also supported for digital sound by DIGPAK (master.com driver), thus it is compatible with lots of games.

What's with that guy with a resume? Did you contact him, Stiletto?

I did contact him and got a response, but considering that I want to ask him about more than just this... well, it's a little tricky to come up with interview questions. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten.

I've got an OVP one:

Will share more photos and test results when I have time.

Here are next several photos of Omni Labs AudioMaster.

The box inside consists of two styrofoam blocks isolated by carton. One half holds the soundcard and the book, the other contains diskettes, microphone and mini-jack-to-RCA cable.

ams-box-2-preview.jpg

The cable is el-cheapo by today standards.

ams-cable-preview.jpg

The mic is either. However, it's clean and seemingly wasn't used at all.

ams-mic-preview.jpg

There are four diskettes that wasn't even opened, while the card definitely was.

ams-disks-preview.jpg

The book (dated 1992) only contains info on bundled software. I haven't found any soundcard installation and usage info.

ams-manual-back-preview.jpg

The soundcard shows little signs of usage. It has connectors for the RAM daughterboard and, seemingly, OPL2 daughterboard (the big connector to the right). It's large but still not a full-length ISA card and is configured by jumpers.

Note the 'V&V Systems' logo on the backside. The FCC ID also belongs to V&V Systems Taiwan Co Ltd. These boards were seemingly manufactured by V&V for Omni Labs.

I can see 32kb on that HY2256A sram chip, maybe the rest are embedded on some other IC? Maybe that Ricoh dsp/mcu has some ram in it?

I've uploaded the drivers to VD. The card seemingly works but it hates my P4/Win98SE. There are drivers only for DOS and Win 3.1. I have to try 486/Win 3.1.

It works in my 486 with little to no issues. Technically, its MIDI part is similar to Gravis Ultrasound. Personally I think that it sounds somewhat better than the standard 256K GUS. There are patches (in a weird MBS format) lying in a folder. The driver loads them into AudioMaster's RAM. I also tested PX player, and it works, though with some glitches.

Now I have to record something.

I have scanned the article from Computer Shopper 01-1993, here it is.

I have huge resolution TIFF scans of this, if need be.

Nope. The section continues, but the article doesn't. I have checked it. There is another article on page 696.

Great. Never heard of AudioMaster 32. Although I doubt it was ever released to the public since there're no visible traces of it over the net.

I've acquired BYTE magazine 01/1993. Alas, what seemed to be an article turned out to be a small ad:

bsr_audiomaster_byte_01_1993.jpg

Here it comes by the name of BSR MediaMaster distributed by DAK Industries.

Note that since July'92 AudioMaster's price has been reduced from $300 to $200, seemingly to compete with $200 Gravis Ultrasound that was released October'92.
