Digging thru some "dead" parts found a bios chip for ECS P5VX-BE with bios 1.4. Noted there is not a lot on that board so wasted a few hours digging around and got a few more bios, the manual and a FAQ.
Upped to our library and archive org. http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?file … 132&menustate=0 and https://archive.org/details/ecs-p-5-vx-be-stuff.-7z
Noticed that TRW has the board but no manual or bios. Maybe they can add the extra info.....
Also found minor stuff to ECS P5VX-A and P5VX-B but incomplete so far... just rambling. 🤣

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

As long as the music is from before 1995 it is 😁

And only if it is one of those hybrid CDs with multimedia that can be viewed on an old PC (-:

A lot of it is .

The soundtrack to Freejack (have not seen this since my last VHS rental of it) and a compilation of Erik Satie's most memorable works spring to mind.
The latter was a challenge even for my go-to Plextor drive .

What software are you using? Have you tried Exact Audio Copy?

Needed to figure out a way to attach a Noctua 60mm fan to a Pentium Pro heatsink.

Started by gluing some screws onto the fan to act as attachment points.

Then I used these rubber grommets to affix the screws to the metal fins on the heatsink.

Since the fins expand in width towards the base of the heatsink, sliding the grommets down tightens their grip. Since the screws have ridges, it prevents the grommets from sliding back up. End result is quite sturdy.

This is rather ingenious. My go-to method has been aluminum tape, doubly secured with an additional layer of gaffer tape, or sometimes one or the other, depending on the need.

Thank you, I will admit I stumbled on this purely by accident. 😁

Out of curiosity, do you have a picture of how you tape a fan to a heatsink? I'd be concerned about having enough adhesion on the fins without blocking the heatsink itself, so I'm curious how you've gone about it.

I use DBPoweramp. the metadata source integration, the ease with which it is is configurable (great interface) and the flexibility have made me a happy DBPoweramp aficionado since about 2012. Money well spent (on initial purchase and later upgraded versions), IMHO.

EAC does work well, but it is not as seamless and easy to configure as DBpoweramp.

Troubleshooting an Asus CUBX-E, it won't power on.

When forcing the power supply to be turned on with the green and black wire, the northbridge warms up. The CPU doesn't.
After measuring all the FETs, one in particular doesn't have a Gate voltage. Maybe this one is dead Jim.

I got up to trying to find some Xmas songs for the TNDY Tracker (Tandy 1000 tracker) or Apple II 8-bit version of Music Construction Set -- to no avail.

Trying to learn anything SCSI related: Adaptec AHA-2940U and Quantum Atlas IV

And also effed up an 8.4 GiB Samsung IDE drive, as I accidently had the Molex connector the wrong way [D'Oh] - it had contact enough to make it smell smoky, and after correct polarization, it was very evident that the magic smoke was leaving one of the big ICs 🙁

Likely dead. I suppose a replacement should get it running - old boards were rather tough in regards of MOSFET stuff.

That's an inconvenient location for desoldering. 😒

Yeah this one is gonna need a few layers of aluminum tape to protect the socket and the ATX connector.
Maybe I can find a donor board with an appropriate MOSFET.

Just curious: how was it achieved?

Apparently the pins on the power supply was close enough to the edge of the insulation to make contact with the pins of the drive - probably because I was being clumsy down at the floor ...

And the fact that it is a modern psu with all black wires, so I didn't have any visual help, maybe added to it?

Furthermore it seems that the incident also killed my external USB to 3.5/2.5 IDE and SATA converter. It smells "technical" and drives, that used to enumerate on it, doesn't ... 😕
