How well does this board performs?
Negative and positive things with the board?

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.

Can't say I've ever owned one, but it looks very nice - dual CPU with universal AGP and PCI/PCI-X. Just from general experience with AthlonXP, it would probably be slower (for gaming) than an XP 3000/3200 system due to the lower FSB (AthlonMP only support up to 266 FSB, so the MP 2600/2800 will be somewhat slower, individually, than something like XP 3200, and most games won't take advantage of the second CPU). Would still be a very cool machine. With the universal AGP slot you could even go for something like Voodoo5 5500 (or some other 3.3V AGP card), but with a faster AthlonMP I'd probably preference a newer card like GeForce 6.

I have one. Nice looking board, but thats it. Performance of the AMD-760MPX is just terrible. Also this board is quite picky about RAM sticks - only some are working. And early revisions lacks USB support due to chipset bug, you must use PCI USB controller.

Performace comparsion - 2x AXP 1600+ Palomino (Tiger MPX) vs AXP 2000+ Palomino (Abit NF7 - NF2 Ultra 400)
HL2 EP2 - 19.8 - 34.8
Far Cry - 23.3 - 34.2
Doom 3 - 25.6 - 42
FEAR - 28.3 - 41.4

So....
The board would be great for pre-2000 gaming and only be able to use one CPU?
Because of Windows98 not being able to use dual CPU.
And low performance for post 2001 gaming and WinXP?

Well, the performance is bad in general, not only for new games. Q3A = 118.2 vs 182.3 or UT = 44.1 vs 61 fps. I don't know how good it will perform in windows 98, all these numbers are measured in XP... still it shouldn't be that much different.

I guess for older games this board wil do just fine. Not as fast as VIA / Nvidia chipset based boards, but still acceptable.

Gues it will make a decent electrical heater then! If it can't perform 😁

Do you think this is a result of the lack of bios options for memory timings?

Their are MPX mainboards where you can tweak the memory,.

The board would be great for pre-2000 gaming and only be able to use one CPU?
Because of Windows98 not being able to use dual CPU.

Put quite simply: this isn't (nor was it ever intended to be) a gaming board. It was intended for compute-heavy workstation loads of the kind people used So603/604 dual Netburst Xeon boards for. Just as with the Xeon, overall clock speed and FSB were kept lower than with single CPU, both to enhance stability and to keep power draw/thermals under control.

For its given purpose, this thing was a monster, utterly demolishing far higher-clocked Xeons in pretty much every application that did not support SSE2, and even if it did support SSE2, the difference was small and this platform was cheaper.

For gaming though... theoretically you can enable SMP on Q3A which might give a small boost vs single CPU. I don't know whether havli tested with SMP active or not, but even if he did not, it's not likely this board would beat a faster-clocked single AthlonXP. That said, the comparison with an nForce2-Ultra400 is unfair, as that's the fastest of all SoA platforms and was released two years later than the 760MPX. No surprise that dual channel DDR400 beat the hell out of single channel DDR266. A more fair comparison would be with the Via KT266A ,which was released around the same time as the 760MPX. But the MPX still lost, even with the same CPU:

As I explained above, the Tiger MPX loses in all the resolutions, but only notably in the 640×480 resolutions, where it is down by nearly 16%. However, taking into consideration most people play the games at 1024×768 or higher, the difference slips to about 11% in 32-bit color.

As with dual P3 systems, an AthlonMP is still much too slow to play any truly multithreaded games where you get a big boost from that second CPU. The second CPU certainly has added value, but not in gaming. In fact it's worse than with the P3 as there you can at least take two of the fastest CPUs and combine them with the fastest chipset (2x P3-1400S on i840) so at least you don't lose anything by going dual. Here you clearly do sacrifice single CPU performance.

My interest in this board(chipset) is to run a Voodoo 5500 PCI in the 33bit/66mhz slot with windows 98SE, I saw an asus(?) Version With windows 98 drivers.

Guess it's a curiosity as to whether this card would be faster in an MPX platform compared to an N-Force 2 or pentium 4 type platform but restricted to 33mh PCI.

Still waiting nearly 2 months for the Tyan 2469 motherboard and have received the athlonxp 2600(2ghz Barton/266mhz/512kb)

Unless someone has a better idea for 66mhz PCI Voodoo 5500 & windows 98SE I'm all ears.

Got the Mac edition so really want to use DVI.

Basically trying to find a platform that won't bottleneck the cards performance but use windows 98( or maybe windows 2000....).

Has anyone managed to install Windows 7 x32 SP1 on a TYAN S2466 (Tiger MPX) ? When I tried it almost managed, but got stuck on the final Completing Installation step.

My system has W98SE + WXP + 2003 running with no known issues.

^ Pretty much my experience, not great. Didn't like certain Flash graphics, even with different GPUs (it was 2013; located and attached image, redacted usernames), and some programs would crash and burn upon attempting to run them... but I could run Youtube videos quite well back then, which nearly maxed both CPUs 🤣 [This won't happen nowadays due to more general modern web tech changes...]

System would also black out (rather than shut off) when both CPU temps reached a bit over 50°C, especially while in use; not sure if it was a fluke with my particular board or what.

Did eventually obtain two later Tyan AMD board models (S2877 and S2925) which are much better in comparison, though.

Windows Vista could also run on that board, but some DOS character garbage would show up on the display during transition to the desktop after booting.

Might be able to shoot some pepper up it's butt with tips here...

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
