I too have a Dell 2007FP and also have an NEC MultiSync 2060NX. Both are 1600x1200 native and have served me well for both DOS and Windows games. I do have a slight preference for the NEC's subjectively better color reproduction.

Amusingly, modern 4K display can now emulate the CRT look rather well using pixels (I use the shaders in DOSBOX for example and it looks amazingly authentic when I compared it to my actual CRT monitors) but good luck finding an old PC that outputs 4K 🤣

Is this the shader you are referring to or is there another one?

It doesn't look much like my CRT, or others I've had, because the image doesn't have rounded corners (because it typically doesn't fill the whole CRT screen) and it doesn't fade towards the edges either.

No, it's nothing like that. I posted stills on this forum a while back that show it much better - it's very close to how it really looks. I tweaked it a bit though - it originally had curves which I removed since all my monitors past 1997 were more or less flat. I found a similar image of mine on Vogons but with curve:

Okay, thanks for the screenshot.

Hmmm, that looks like scanlines to me!

Interesting, though. I'll admit that I'm not using my CRT much right now, but I'll try to take some pictures to illustrate and compare.

It's much better than the usual ugly scanline filters - these are "authentic" scanlines, created by emulating pixels made to look like they do on a CRT screen which automatically makes the scanlight effect appear.

If you look closely (which is easier to see on my 4K display), you can just about see the phosphor effect on the pixels - especially around the edges of single pixels.

I was going to say: I'm at work, so maybe the monitor here is to sucky for me to fully appreciate this.

I'll try it out at home and compare when I get a chance.

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up!

Mind, the forum scales the image down - open it in a new tab to see it full size. That's probably why you can't see it as well.

Looks rather nice indeed, but probably only usable for emulation. If connecting real hardware, even a nvidia 7900 GT, the most modern card that (sort of) works in win98, caps out at 2560x1600 resolution
