Could you flip your board over and perhaps take a look/close up photo ..at the area around U510 ..?
where I have missing components ?

Did you notice that the images in post #4 are really very hires?

Right click on them and select "show image in another tab" and you can zoom in to your heart's content. What I can easily see there: U510 is a 74VCX08 which is a "Low Voltage Quad 2-Input AND Gate with 3.6V Tolerant Inputs and Outputs" (http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/149/74vcx08-289888.pdf). Resistor R548 and R542 aren't there. Resistors R549, R550, R551 are 0 Ohms (marking R00), Resistor R541 is 4.7kOhms (marking 472).

Ahh yes VCX08 makes more sense. It's a current production chip at OnSemi (they bought Fairchild a couple of years ago), you can order it direct with them if you have an account http://www.onsemi.com/PowerSolutions/product.do?id=74VCX08 but it's kinda not worth it unless you buy in bulk because the parts cost $0.20 and the shipping charges are $11 minimum.

Thanks for confirmation of the parts ..
but sadly ..I am having problems when I can't actually get a jewellers eyeglass in close proximity to a small physical object ..and illuminate it to my advantage ..
Yes ..my eyes are that bad ..
The MS I suffer with did the damage.
So all help is appreciated.

Ordered just 1 from Little diode ..
£3 no postage ..on ebay .
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ON-Semiconductor-7 … OEAAOSw8hxbNlAL
worth a punt.
The zero ohms sm resistor can just be linked for now..

You need a "helping hands" stand; it's a heavy base with an attached magnifier and 2 adjustable clamps. Looks like this:

There are even some with integrated light and soldering iron stand like this one:

Yep ..that is a useful item ..but I do have a good range of x10 >x20 eyepieces ..which make my hobby and by work still practical.
Thing is ..at distances over 2 foot I can still function well enough with glasses ..
..but I do find lighting from different angles beneficial ..and for that ..the item has to be actually there.
Photos help ..but no substitute for the real thing..
🤣

How about one of those USB microscopes connected to a PC? You can find them around $20. Example:

...Early Days yet ..
BUT ..looking promising ..in that the Voodoo 5500 PCI now posts ..
see pics.
The replacement glue logic chip arrived and was fitted..but not found any suitable zero ohm restors ..so just added a blob of solder as a link..
but ..to get this far gives me a warm glow..
not counting any chickens yet though..

I'm Obviously going to need drivers soon ..in order to test this beast..
There is just one voodoo 5 driver disc in vogons archive ..
does this one also cover the 5500 ?
I hope so ..cos I'm currently grabbing a copy..

Pretty sweet ...
All appears to be working
3Dmark 5704 13034
But only 512mb ram installed atm ..and no sound card ..
Just a bare bones 98se build to make sure the voodoo was working.
Looks like I have a winner.

Using a solder bridge as a link isn't a problem really.

The main reason for using 0 ohm resistors is simply because they can be placed automatically by machine during assembly.

Here is the result of the Voodoo 5500 pci in the system which will hopefully become my main retro gaming PC ..
The hope is to run both 98se and XP on pull out tray/caddy drives.
But of course I had to try 3Dmark 2001se ..
Of course not all tests can be completed or are indeed hardware catered for.
That said ..I am suitably impressed with what it _can_ do.
No Idea how the result benchmarks with similar systems..but I figure it has to be pretty good ..on account it looked good to me during the tests .

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This is the system as is currently and the detailed result.of BlooDoo ....(yep thats what I've called the build 🤣 ...on account the tower is Blue)

Well I just had to know ..
The heatsink I ordered for the Radeon9800se arrived ..and was fitted.
Another OS built on a seperate HD (98se)
and the Voodoo5500 replaced with the Radeon9800se (AGP)
So basically the same hardware ..
3Dmark2001 run up and the card tested..
This time (obviously) there were no hardware missing passes ..and the test completed smoothly.
3Dmark was 5350
I guess the choice for gaming is obvious ..though I think the Voodoo would produce wonderful results for period correct games.
I wonder if you can fit both ...🤣..
I'll probably just build another PC for earlier games which uses the Voodoo to its full potential.
It does make you wish 3DFX hadn't been bought out and dumped..
sadly ..that's life..
I have 2 wonderful cards..but each belonged to a time slot now gone.
cest la vie.
