When I saw this thread Post your 'current' PC and that thread Show me your HP! , I thought, what is missing is a thread that shows how dirty PCs get in reality.

So, to start a thread for people who love pics of dirty PCs, I begin with my story.

Well, I made some pics recently of the strange growths on my PC.

DSCN8996.jpg
DSCN8997.jpg

It grew out from the front...

DSCN8988.jpg

...as well as from the back:

DSCN8989.jpg

When It even started to spew dirt into the vicinity, I felt it was time to take some action.

DSCN9000.jpg

After taking off the covers I saw that it would take a bit of time to clean up.

DSCN9002.jpg

But I felt relieved. The CPU coolers were not clogged yet. (To have to disassemble them for cleaning is a messy hassle.)

DSCN9006.jpg

The heater bars were already quite well clogged between the heater elements and their attached radiators.

DSCN9014.jpg

Even drives looked like long-forgotten cheese in the fridge.

And now post your pics of dirty computers 😀

Oh the humanity! I'm glad my PC has never gotten that bad.
This reminds me of the 8-Bit-Guy episode where he restored the really bad VIC-20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_vpfBJZ7JI

Opened this HP DC7800 SFF at work one month ago. Desktops from healthcare always seems to be the worst to collect dust. Bad cleaning in the offices or maybe a lot of people visiting them?

P.S. That floppy drive works fine now.

Someone will no doubt find pics of that old PC that was next to a welding station shortly...

That are real gems!
In particular I like the near-clogged CPU fan. Makes me imagine the customer telling the service, "the computer got very slow" (because of heat throttling of the CPU). I had this kind of clog the time I cleaned my PC about two years ago. The whole CPU cooling stuff had to disassembled to unclog and clean it.
And the floppy is great too! Definitely one of the dirtiest I have seen!

@gca, umm... I added "[Viewers discretion advised]" to the topic... I hope this is okay then? Nobody is forced to enter this thread and watch dirty pics 😉

Man, I wish I still had the pictures from a TV studio I worked at. We had a matrix switcher that I opened up one day, and I couldn't even see any components. (probably 2cm thick) I hit it with the Metrovac and it sucked it all up in one piece like a rug getting sucked into a vacuum.. haha. It was extremely satisfying.

Attached, pictures of someone's HP 6200 Pro. (I don't remember where I found these pictures. They may have been posted by someone here.)

I've picked up some very dusty attic PCs in my time.

Wow... thats a world class jewel!! Cat vs. PC 1 : 0

Right now I am trying to understand the different colors of the decomposition products. Red (under transducer) - iron? Yellow - tin or lead? Green - copper?

When I saw the images and noticing the computer must have stood vertically, I came to the conclusion that the guy probably didn't want to neuter his young tomcat too early.
When my last cat was about a year old, some day I noticed warm water pouring over my head while sitting at my PC.
I instinctively looked up to the ceiling. But there nothing came from, instead I noticed young tomcat showing me his back, his head turned backwards, looking at me with a very possessive smile while he hosed me. I then took a bath and decided to visit the vet the next day. (Spaying the young boy late didn't do him harm, he lived 19 years)

So I guess that guy was one of the sort who likes to run his PC open-cased, and it got hosed by his small friend.

How about a cat that lets it's glands go when it gets excited, on a desk, over a keyboard.

I am lucky. I have only seen a fully clotted pc like these, one time in my life. The owner had lot's of dogs, never vacumed and had the PC standing on the carpet under the table.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

The dirtiest-ever computer component I've seen was the interior of a IBM PC/XT PSU. It was solid dust inside. (Unfortunately I didn't think to photograph it.)

Is this too much voodoo?

Why would viewer discretion be advised for dirty computers? It's not like toddlers would actually be afraid of dust 🤣 Just asking.

Anyway, I'm also lucky because I always keep my PCs clean from dust, lint and other debris, even though it sometimes is hard to do so, hehe.

Sorry, no photos, but I had a system where the venting must have been poorly designed. The system sucked air through my tape drive, and the dust ended up killing the drive.
