So I am having this problem:

All those lines on the right weren't there before as far as I remember.

What do you think could cause it? This wasn't happening before.
It only happens with VESA modes. I have UNIVBE loaded.

Is the card bad (RAM?)? Motherboard? But all other modes seem to work just fine!

vesa modes or one and the same vesa mode? looks like bad ram chip (partially) as it takes <1/7 of the screen

It is UNIVBE which is bad.
Back then decades ago I had to tell people this often.
Getting a VBE driver that is written for the specific card/chip always solved these problems.

I think there is a S3 VBE driver around, will check myself later today, as I also installed a Virge (DX) in my retro computer.

Well after further inspection I can say not all VESA modes, I tried the "unicentr" app and I didn't see this happen. It only happened with these emulators using weirder modes (like 384x257 which apparently are planar modes).

Well I was using it before without problems. But yeah if you have a DOS S3 app, let me know. I think I used to have one back in the day for my Diamond S3-based card.

My experience was similar here. I never got an 8/16-Bit ISA card like, for example, a WD90C31 card to work with UNIVBE.
Using the manufacturer VBE driver worked for me fuirst time. For Trio32/64 and Virge, S3VBE20 (S3 VBE/Core 2.0) should o the job.
However, I'd rather replace the VGA-BIOS with something VBE2.x compatible.
From what I learned with the Trios, some BIOSses came with VBE 1.2, some with VBE 2.x.
Gratefuly, they are all interchangeable across different boards often, as long as the S3 chip matches.

Now I also notice that I get brightness changes when I do stuff like click the mouse. Could this card need recapping?
I can also hear noise via the soundcard when this happens.

Damnit. Playing music also makes the brightness flicker. This is messed up.

The PSU is OK, but the motherboard, maybe it has cap issues, even though I was sold it as " capacitors checked OK".
How should I check the caps, if they show no obvious sign of being faulty? (No bulging, no acid).
Edit:

So I checked the PSU at a floppy/hd power plug, I get 4.76V on the 5V line, which sounds normal to me?

On the motherboard, I probed the USB port, and I get 4.67V 😒

Champ! That problem did disappear with this software. Thanks!

However I still have the other problem. ANd I notice, it only happens in Windows... 😢 😠
