Hi Guys, I just found a P6FX2-A motherboard (http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Prod … -RR-/Socket%208) in a box and wondered if it worked.

It fails to post with the AMI BIOS giving post error 27 with 25 being the last thing that worked. Does anyone have any idea what the issue might be and how to fix it please? I have tried different SIMMs, SIMMs in the other two end slots, a different GPU and still get the same error 😢

What BIOS revision is it?

AMI 2.2 bios, it represents "base 64 memory tested"

AMI Color, "Video mode tested"

AMI Win BIOS, "Initialize before setting video mode"

AMI ez-flex BIOS, "Perform setups for vector table initialization"

We need more information about the bios.

Thank you for your reply and how can I get the information you need?

The AMIBIOS chip says 686 BIOS (C) 1995 AA00266606 and searching fx2a12db.bin I found AMIBIOSC0622 + American Megatrends, Inc.0620 07/15/95 EliteGroup Computer System CO.,LTD. P6FX2-A Rev. B

The codes I spotted are d1 d3 d6 d7 05 06 0E 0F 25 27, does this help?

Looking @ http://www.bioscentral.com/postcodes/amibios.htm I think it may be AMI Win BIOS as it's the only one with d1

D1 Check for <INS> key command
D3 Chipset initialization/auto detect memory
There's no D6 or D7
05 Disable cache
06 Uncompressed POST code
0E Initialize after KB controller batch
0F Write KB command byte
25 Read input port of 9042 chip, clear password
27 Initialize before setting video mode

It looks like it's getting caught up on something right before it initializes the display adapter.

Have you tried using an ISA video card?

Thank you for the information, but I don't have an ISA VGA card. I will see if I can get one from eBay for a sensible price.

I got an Orchid Kelvin 64 ISA and tried with that, but no change and it's still stuck @ post error 27 + 25

I know the Kelvin 64 is OK as I checked it out in my Gigabyte GA-686DX system.

Many boards don't POST if the RTC battery isn't holding charge, but the screen will usually come on still. Have you tried single and dual CPU configurations? You testing a 1M chip? Try to stick with 256K or 512K chips for testing.

If there is an AWARD BIOS for this board, you can try flashing that externally.

Thank you for your reply. When the RTC battery died on the 686DX it still posted, but I will adjust the RTC to use a CR2032 as I did on the 686DX. It's got a single 256KB PPro at the moment that's fine in my VS440FX which currently has a 512KB. I have 4 x 1MB and may try two of those once it's posting OK.

I don't have an AWARD BIOS for the board or the ability to flash it externally.

BTW I have added Menu->Hardware->CPU Detail->NexGen NXOP to 5.41 Beta-24 and it would be great to know what it reports in your system. It's also in the save file, so a new save file would be great.

Trying to get to it tonight. I'm testing several systems in different threads at the same time and not getting much sleep.
