I've just moved house and I am trying to sort out my "office". I have a lot less space now, and I'll need an ITX W98/DOS system.

So what are my options for W98 / DOS gaming? I currently have a VIA "Samuel" C3 or something soldered CPU, ITX format motherboard. It has a PCI slot so I can put in a sound card. W98 performance will be meh (particularly 3D graphics) but probably adequate for those early 3D titles that can't run on XP / 7 / 10.

Can anyone think of a better way of getting a SFF W98/DOS PC?

If your VIA motherboard has onboard audio, there's a good chance it's the 82C686B southbridge which has really good built-in DOS support. Use the PCI slot for a video card instead & you'll have a decent little system.

It doesn't, I checked (I probably posted about the board when I picked it up). I can always physically switch between Voodoo 3 2000 PCI in W98 and SBL (or whatever I get to replace it) in DOS...

You could get a slightly bigger case with a dual PCI riser. That way you could use both cards at the same time. Also, if you have PCMCIA on your board, you could use that for audio as well.

+1 for a VIA board. I went with the C7, and stuck a dual PCI riser on it for SLI Voodoo 2's. Alternatively, you could use a single PCI video (i.e. Voodoo 3 or Nvidia FX5500) card in combination with a PCI sound card (Aureal Vortex, Sound Blaster Live, etc).

This was my setup back in 2006. I still have the beige pizza box computer, just don't really use it anymore. The grey tower was an AMD socket A system, still ran well at the time but I sold it around 2010-2011 (memory is fuzzy).
