I have an asust p55t2p4 board I updated to a modded bios 0207_j7 which is supposed to add support to up to 128gb drives. I am currently running a k6-2 400 cpu in the board.
What my issue is no matter what I use to partition my new 16gb compact flash card windows 98 scan disk at setup gives me this error:
ScanDisk cannot read from the last cluster on drive C. This cluster is either damaged, or your system is not configured properly. Drive C may need to have Logical Block Addressing enabled to work properly, or its disk partition may be incorrectly marked as a non-LBA partition
I have tried different bios selections for the cf like auto type and auto mode, fdisk, partition magic, gparted. Made sure lba flag set on the drive. Low level format. And I always get this message right when scan disk starts. I'm currently letting scan disk run and hopefully it will install. Just curious if others had this issue.

OK where did you get the BIOS update and what make/model CF card ? What CF adapter are you using ?
Admit am a noobe in CF cards but the bios upgrade is for real HD's and if you CF does not comply to standards then it could be a problem or the CF to ide adapter is

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

I've had a few of those boards using Jan's BIOS starting from 2001 and I've used many different hard drives with no issues, and I've also used Promise IDE controller cards with no problems. But I've never used any of the memory card adapters or compact flash, so I can't offer any advice on those. I have seen a number of threads on these issues over the past couple of years that I read with mild interest. Someone with experience with those will probably have some ideas.

Bios update from here:
https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=video_ … m&v=x6yez9i9Mg4

syba compact flash to ide. has master and slave settings on it.
the cf card is a Verbatim 16Gb 233x card off amazon so wether its very legit who knows 🤣.

As far as I knew compact flash were just typical ide drives.
I have used an sd adapter to ide and it workd fine but it was only 8gb.
Thansk for the reply

definately not working even though fdisk sees proper size when scandisk runs a full scan it shows bad sectors after I would say the 8gb mark of the drive. I'm sure xtide or a drive overlay would fix this but I thought jan's modded bios would too.

Yep I usually use drive overlay in these situations. xt-ide (when not shadowed) is pretty slow in a mobo this "new".

Ya think I give up on the compact flash seeing lots of people having issues with them. Just trying to find a decent solution. My SD to ide 8gbcards work fine but the write speeds are brutal even for this board not having dma.

Well Solved this is definately something to do with the compact flash card or adapter. I just used a sata to ide drive adapter with 120Gb ssd and windows 98 is happy with it. Scan disk had nothing to report when it opened for setup so guess if I want decent storage it's ssd and ide adapter. which seems to be inexpensive or atleast the same cost as cf and adapter or even sd and adapter.
