Have you noticed two songs that are just sooo alike with each other, that it's quite easy to mash up the two?

Well, here's an example: It's My Life by Bon Jovi and Larger Than Life by Backstreet Boys.

Bon Jovi vs Backstreet Boys - It's Larger Than My Life

I may run and hide when you're screamin' my name, alright
But let me tell you now there are prices to fame, alright
I ain't gonna be just a face in the crowd
You're gonna hear my voice when I shout it out loud

Chorus:
It's my life (can't you see, can't you see)
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
And that makes you larger than life

Looking at the crowd and I see your body sway, c'mon
Wishin' I could thank you in a different way, c'mon
Tomorrow's getting harder make no mistake
Luck ain't even lucky, got to make your own breaks

Chorus:
It's my life (can't you see, can't you see)
It's now or never
I ain't gonna live forever
I just want to live while I'm alive
And that makes you larger than life

Seriously.... 🤣

So here's a challenge: find other pairs of songs so similar to each other and mash them up! 😁

Never thought this thread would be that long, but now, for something different.....

Yeah I've always thought that 😀

There's a bar that plays It's My Life a lot and I always complain about them playing "that backstreet boys song" 😀

Both are awful either way

In fact, mash ups on YouTube are common enough.

Here ya go (though not exactly how you describe it):

There's also an Indonesian local singer named Memes, she sang a song titled Terlanjur Sayang, which was very popular around mid-90s. Now let's compare it to this early Madonna's song, shall we.

Oh my, that's quite a revelation! 🤣

I think it explains why I listen to almost everything - but less and less mainstream pop. 😁

How about game theme songs? So far, I've only found a pair:
(1) MiG-29 intro.
(2) Laser Squad intro.
Wait until the main melody kicks in and you know what I mean.

Raptor Hangar and Doom E1M5 anyone?

Also there's an interesting Ghostbusters + City Escape mashup... and then there's the obvious comparisons with I Want A New Drug there was a lawsuit over back in the day.

The title screen to DemonStar sounds awfully familiar to this one song from Doom 2 that I don't remember the official title to.

It's no wonder that those two songs ("Larger than Life" and "It's my Life") sound alike. Both of them were produced and probably co-written by a famous at that time songwriter Max Martin. He also wrote "songs" for Britney Spears, N*SYNC which turned out to be "hits" back then...

Back when Gigi D'Agostino came out with the song L'Amour Toujours /I'll fly with you , there on a Danish Depeche Mode board, a guy I knew he asked. If the song was not very much alike But Not Tonight be Depeche Mode , and I remember saying back then. Why not see it as a tribute ? And guess what it looks like other people have seen the similarties too.

In my mind, mash-ups, are just beat-remixes evolved into its own genre.

Here is a quite famous (to me anyway) bootleg remix/mash-up of Kent´s song Kärleken Väntar (The Love awaits) and Fade To Grey from Visage.

I see. I guess the producer just copy-pasted the MIDI notes and made some changes here and here. 🤣

There are LOADS 😀

Here is another one, where the original song is by Kim Larsen and the song name is Midt Om Natten (In The Middle Of Night) and The Loft took the beat from the song, and used it to their own song. And here is a mash-up/beat remix of the two songs. If you have not figured out yet 😜 Then I love music 😀

I always get Journey's Don't Stop Believing confused with Fleetwood Mac's Don't Stop. I don't really like either song by the way.

Then I guess plagiarism is a form of creativity. 🤣

I think it happens in games too. It's very common when it goes to game mechanics (first-person shooter, real-time strategy), but I wonder if there are game whose contents (storyline, characters, graphics, interface, etc) are so oddly similar with another.

I don't think theme counts. A game can have the same theme (say, World War II), but can have very different "look and feel". And example is Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe and Aces Over Europe; both have WW2 theme, but the look and feel is different enough that you can easily feel the difference while not experiencing the strange feelings of "sameness".
