I'm having trouble with this unusual Aureal Vortex 2 card in my AOpen AX6BC board:

I have a fresh install of Windows 98SE, and whenever I try installing any version of the AU8830 driver, the system freezes up. This happens no matter what PCI slot I have the card in. Can anyone help me?

EDIT: I think the card is likely the problem, because Puppy Linux won't seem to load with it installed, but it works fine without it.

I had this problem with that card before. Its the driver. I forgot which driver to use but the one you are using is causing the lockup.

Do you have any idea which one it might be? I've tried a whole bunch of different drivers, including all the ones on the CD (yes, there are multiple for some reason) as well as from the Internet. Nothing seems to work.

2041 is usually the one to use. But it sounds like you have been quite exhaustive in your troubleshooting and I can't think of anything you haven't tried. And it's certainly not a problematic build for a Vortex 2.
