OK, Bristlehog. Thanks! Will try the FF7 soundbank. Let's see or hear where it will take us.

//edit: The bank actually loads fine, but many instruments are missing or mute.

Another observation is that the drumkits seems to have too little volume, regardless which bank I load.

Okay. I doubt that it's my hack that causes problems. After all, it only affects the 'mute aliases' which contain virtually no data.

Try testing the SF2 version. Also, upload your MIDI file(s) for me to test it against BASSMIDI synth with SF2.

If the SF2 version works ok (which might be not the case), then we have some serious problems with Awave WFB conversion.

I will test the SF2 on a SB32 tomorrow but I fear it will sound alright.

Ok. Here's another (now it's Advent GM): http://geryon.ru/advhack1.wfb

And I thought Advent is still to come 🤣

//edit: Loads fine, but many instruments are sounding corrupted. Looks like the converter doesn't do its job well.

You fell behind the times! You should spend less time tinkering... but hey, look who's talking!

Anyway, I tested Doom E1M1 against FF7 SF2 and some instruments are clearly missing:

http://geryon.ru/tmbdoom.mp3 - rendered with Timbres of Heaven (360 MB in size) soundfont for comparison

Fabian, try opening our converted WFB banks in WavePatch: are there any errors?

If you manage to determine which exact instruments are sounding corrupted, we might work something out by analyzing those instruments with Awave studio both in SF2 and WFB versions. If you can't, you still can record the audio so that I analyze it myself (probably by importing the MIDI file into a sequencer software, finding the notes corresponding to corrupt audio by timeline and reading through the MIDI stuff).

I will do that tomorrow. Are you OK if I take the FF7 bank?
If you want I will analyse DOOM E1M1 and a Starwars or Warcraft Midi.

I'm ok with that. Doom E1M1 and Warcraft sound fine to me.

I will have to setup a whole "new" system for this project (in order wo load the WavePatch program and comare the SF2 banks properly.
At the moment I'm checking out the best specs. I think I will go with a P1 / PPro or P2 with Windows 95.

Why Windows 95? I thought that Maui's drivers and software work best with Windows 3.1. Have you got another opinion?

For me, 95 is much more convenient to use. If the stuff doesn't work I will stick to 3.1 of course.

Just don't know where to "buy" the time to build the system right now.. do you?

Yes, I do. In the land of 'Think what you are doing all your 24 hours and why are you doing that and is it really so necessary to do it in the face of not having time for yourself and little things that fill you with anticipation'.

My Maui arrived. It works, but MAUIDIAG reports a memory test error when both RAM slots are populated on the card. With just one stick of RAM, dependless on the slot it is inserted into, no memory errors occur. Did you see anything like this, Fabian?

I too got a Maui recently and I installed two 4MB sticks of RAM. I just ran the diagnostics and the memory tests (module 5?) all passed, but took forever. Did you try two different sticks of RAM?

Yes, I tried different sticks of RAM. No matter what stick I use, if I populate both RAM slots, errors occur. If I populate only one slot, dependless of which one, first or second, no errors occur.

Perhaps I'll try 1mb sticks instead of 4mb ones just for the sake of experiment.

It might be that my Maui is defective, despite being new and unopened before me.

I don't see any passives in bad shape.

I tested with 1 Mb sticks, and everything works fine, except for 2x4 Mb configuration. 1 Mb, 2 Mb and 5 Mb of RAM work. But when I stick in the 8 Mb, there are memory errors when running MAUIDIAG.

Perhaps I should check another type 4 Mb sticks (I have 4 of them but all of same type), problem is that I don't have any currently.
