IIRC F1 Racing Simulation from Ubi-Soft supports glide and d3d only.

P.S. Any SGL game imports sgl.dll functions so has "sgl_create_screen_device" in the dump. Theoretically...

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

Wow I've never seen this.
Can you play at a lower res. and tell if it changes something ?
Generally speaking, stay away from S3 cards for PowerVR gaming, it's among the slowest. Verite is fine.

Squares scale with different resolutions, so they definitely have the same size in pixels and yeah, these are tiles 😁
Will read PVR architecture reference to understand how it's possible (really, more likely I would have expected squares at a fixed point in the screen space than in 3D)

I have an idea.
Broken tiles are simply unlit ones. Don't remember how is lightmapping realized in Q1/Q2 engines, but this is a "multi-texturing" issue.
Not sure how can (for example) be broken part of the chip core (ALU, tile-processor etc.), so maybe after all this is VRAM issue.

Very fun glitch 😀

I should cannibalize some victim for the VRAM chips. Intel 740 looks yummy 😁

Has anyone thought about pairing a PCX2 with a PowerVR Kyro? It just seems like an interesting and logical pairing

yes
I made tests in games too but not documented it. I remember it to be quite good and having good compatibility.

New toys for my PowerVR card

I've only found videos of PS1 versions of Enigma and 3D Shooting Maker, none of PowerVR ones, so I'll make some gameplay videos sooner or later.
Unfortunately, 3D shooting Maker's menus rely on system fonts, meaning my american release of Windows can't display them corectly. I guess I'll have to install a japanese version of Windows.

It's a good idea to install a japan windows anyway as there are some games locked to the system language and refuse to run or install otherwise. I have a Japan Windows ME setup for exactly that (also.... me-tan )

Is it possible to get them working by copying over a few DLLs? I think that works for Windows 3.11.

Not in a simple way, but it should work using a soft called NJstar communicator. But I can't find one of the Win9x compatible versions. It's not on the Wayback machine at least.

I heard it also includes english, is it true ? I would use Google lens for things I don't know by heart but it's not the best experience (I was about to make my own 3D shooter this way 😁).

It's not really a dedicated download (an older version used to be available as a download back in 1998), but rather it's found in Techland's Crime Cities game, and the demo is the easiest way to get it.

Don't expect miracles though. It doesn't try to substitute blends like NEC's PowerVR Extreme driver, and is still missing some vital GL functions (especially regarding depth ranges, clipping and mipmaps)

What is the best CPU, AMD or Intel, to pair with a PCX2 based card like a Matrox M3D? At what point does the GPU bottleneck?

I use a Pentium 4 with mine. it's fine. Just avoid Cyrix. The bus will bottleneck. More complex games will drop excess planes to maintain performance.

Whats the perf gain look like between a p3 1GHz and a p4 3GHz? Surely it’s minimal?

Likely zero. Remember that PCX2 is slower or at best equivalent to a Voodoo 1.

I don't know at that speed it bottlenecks from the CPU, but leileilol is right. A Voodoo 1 is going to be much faster in most games, and has the best compatibility. The only game I can think of where the PCX2 really outshines the competition is Mech Warrior 2. And I think that's only because of really buggy implementations for all of the other renderers. The Voodoo 1 makes an especially terrible showing here, despite its advantages.

If you already have a fast processor, you'll see much more of an effect by overclocking the PCX2 by replacing the clock chip. The performance uplift is almost linear.

Overclocking the Videologic PowerVR PCX2?

Bought a rare version of the PowerVR PCX1

I'd say something between 5% and 10%.
I personally dislike using it in a much newer system, but if you want to get the most out of it, it will be slightly faster that way.
Make sure to not use a S3 or SiS primary card, it's slow with a PowerVR.

Finally, I made a PCI bus speed comparison with an overclocked PCX2 (90MHz).
Quake I :
29MHz : 34.1
39MHz : 34.6
video
System is a 440BX board with a Celeron Tualatin 1300.
The primary card is an ATi Rage 128 Pro (AGP).
PCI bus speed relevance is clearly overated, even with a 90MHz card. At least on a 440BX motherboard.

As a bonus, here is Tomb Raider 5 runing on a PCX2 @90MHz . I know it was an old engine when it came out in 2000, but I found satisfying to play a 2000 game smoothly with a PCX2.
Sorry for the dark image.
