Hey, I'm running win98se and whenever I restart in dos mode I am met with a blank screen (no display, screen still thinks it's on). When I start up normally there are no problems with mouse/sound/cd drivers so assume the problem is in the config.sys file if it is an error on my part. My config.sys file contains the lines

REM --- DOS STARTUP CONFIG.SYS - DEFAULT ---

DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICEHIGH=C:\oakcdrom.sys /D:MSCD001
DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICEHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE RAM I=B000-B7FF
BUFFERS=20
FILES=20

(taken from snover's 2doswin)

This is the first time I have ever had problems with dos in win98, the problems have started with the last format, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try removing the I=B000-B7FF line from EMM386. B000-B7FF is a memory block reserved for monochrome monitors until they became obsolete a long, long time ago. For whatever reason, your video card might refuse to output with this memory block being used for EMS.

Yes, it’s my fault.
