After you boot it go to Options and set Bump Mapping to low if you are experiencing the crash to desktop bug. I don't know if this is a software or hardware bug but it is the only way that I have found to correct this issue. What usually happens if it is set to anything else is when you try to start the game it will hang for a couple of seconds and then exit. Setting BM to low allows the game to start normally.

Did ATi change how bump mapping is handled with the HD cards or did they remove it in favor of tessalation? Or is bump mapping and tessalation the same thing?

ps: afaik, the unreal engine used by republic commando didnt support bumpmapping, it was a hack done by nvidia that was very buggy (could be wrong though)
