I didn't quite realize Windows 3.11 "operating system" would be this unstable: change anything, and it will stop working.
So, is there a way to modify settings from within the DOS? I know C:\Windows\Setup.exe and Autoexec.bat but is there anything else? Or a DOS tool or something?
And what is that you want to change? Usually it's, as you wrote, setup.exe, config.sys and autoexec.bat
you can always edit system.ini and win.ini too
Also win.ini and system.ini.
Registry also exists, but is rarely needed.
Other files like midimap.cfg, control.ini, progman.ini or winfile.ini etc usually don't stop Windows from starting.

Yeah, system.ini did the trick for recovering from some network driver related issue. Need to check those others too, thanks!
