Hey everyone, trying to play NHL95 PC on DOSBOX...I thought I had everything going for the game to load but when I get to the final step where the game should load...the screen just seems to stay black and the game doesn't start...when I press a key, I see this message:

C:\ POINTER 3 FILE ERROR

What the heck does this mean and how the heck can I fix it so I can load NHL95 PC and play it? PLEASE help me, I am so frustrated with my inability to know what is going on here and I REALLY want to play this game....

Thank you very much...

Please tell us if you have made any changes to the DOSBox configuration, tell us how you mounted the emulated drives, how you installed the game, configured it, and started it.

OK...I have not made any changes to DOSBOX whatsoever...I simply downloaded from the DOSBOX website (version 0.63)...this is where my DOSBOX is on my computer:

C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.63

I downloaded the NHL95 for PC zip file and extracted the files into a sub-folder of "oldgames" called "nhl95." This is where it is located on my computer:

C:\oldgames\nhl95

When I tried to start the game on DOSBOX, this is what I am typing:

Z:\>mount C C:\oldgames
Drive C mounted as local directory C:\oldgames\

Z:\>C:

C:\>cd nhl95

C:\NHL95>hockey.exe

Then it kind of looks like the game is going to start...the screen gets black and I'm just waiting to see something but nothing comes up, it just stays black. Then I'll touch a key on the keyboard because there is nothing happening and it says C:\ POINTER 3 FILE ERROR

I've been trying to follow all the directions in these newbie tutorials and it seems like I am doing things right? I even right-clicked on the nhl95 folder and unclicked the read-only option, which I read might be a solution, but didn't seem to help. Please let me know what else I can answer to help out...what can I do to get this thing working??? HELP!!!! THANK YOU!!!

0.63 is old. Get the latest, 0.65 from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dosbox/

Another thing - downloaded games often don't work because files are missing. Better get a legal copy from eBay or some other place, and then come back here.
