I have an Aureal Vortex2 soundcard - a Terratec Xlerate Pro, which should be more or less identical with the Aureal Vortex2 SQ2500 - and I have to reinstall win xp.
I know
- that XP comes with its own "build-in" vortex driver package
- that there are some kind of beta XP drivers for vortex cards, I found this version: AU8830 WindowsXP/2k3 Driver Version 5.12.2568.0
The last time I used the xp drivers first, but couldn't get A3D support in games, than I installed the latest version of A3D (not the soundcard drivers), but especially one game ("B-17 II - The Mighty Eight"), refused A3D support (saying that there are no A3D drivers installed). Finally I installed the above mentioned drivers 5.12.2568.0, following the instructions in the readme file. Well, it worked - somehow. A3D was at least available in the card's demo, but still not in B-17. The midi wavetable I installed on the card could be heard, but not very good (level problem).
So - has anybody experience with installing a vortex2 (AU8830) under windows xp?
Which drivers should be used to get a maximum of the original vortex2 features and compability? (I suppose the 5.12.2568.0 version)
What's the best way to install them during/after a complete XP reinstall?
Is there any difference between the AU8830 based cards? I have three of them - a Diamond Monster Sound MX300, a Turtle Beach Montego II and the Terratec Xlerate Pro - which one to choose?
Ah - I forgot: The card should work allongside with an Audigy 2...
Thanks in advance!
