you know what is funny

as a side effect of intel not being able to provide very efficient cores for apple we are being given more performing cores

the funny thing is that if intel manage to provide more efficient cores in the future he will have to make it the way that the overall cpu performance doesn't decrease 😉

that means even more cores or single core boost 😀
or another 10 years of no speed progress 😉

that's actually nice as you only need to update a gpu 😉

conclusion:

12th gen intel best investments for next 10 years 😀

Jury is out on 12th gen until we see some INDEPENDENT benchmarks. I don't trust Intel's own slides.
Especially after learning that they tested on Windows 11 only before any of the performance patches were applied for Zen products.
I expect it to be a HUGE leap forward for Intel as it seems they have FINALLY released a new product, not something with just more cores and power stapled to Skylake.
But all in all competition is happening again and that is good for all of us.

So I call this generation basically what SHOULD have been 9th or 10th gen.
I can't to see what AMD hits back with.

Personally, I don't favor Intel, so I'm happy to supply this info: Jens Axboe

When I picked it up, he was at 5.1M IOPS Per-Core With AMD Zen 3 + Intel Optane.
Now he is at 10M IOPS Per-Core., its crazy 😉

As I've got older I've come to really hate noise and heat, and the TDP of Intel's offerings are just too damn high right now. Otherwise I remain skeptical of the gaming benefits of the Performance and Efficiency CPU model for gaming purposes, but I am no computer engineer!

Intel still can't count.

Fuck Intel!

But.. But... all I care about is single-core performance in DOS.

I'm sure Intel's 12th gen have been so castrated they can't even *load* DOS on bare metal. Crossing off 12th gen from my list!

How many people do you think have a 5ghz computer ?
I don't have one yet.
Might build one next year but the shortage of components in USA has raised the costs and supply is limited for high end components.

It happens all the time.

Big build up. Then reality sinks in 😉

Sure does. Been a happy Zen user since first generation.
I built a new PC at near enough to launch with a mid range Asus b350 board. I've since upgraded CPUs on that same board twice and currently have it mostly maxed out with a 3900x.
I haven't touched anything else except GPU upgrades and to be honest they weren't really necessary.
For that matter neither were the CPU upgrades, but I wanted to and i COULD and that is really the point.
Both the previous CPUs are still happily trucking along in friends PC's FYI
It's been a long while since Intel has even offered that kind of upgrade path.....

What?

erm Firepro for one 🤣

all the videos showing amd vs intel without a heatsink showing amd chip smoking whilst intel just slows to a halt

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxSqCdT7xPY

waits to see ryzens smoke for the pyro's
i remember when my cpu fan failed on my phenom system it gave heat venom and the whole system was smokin' poison

Who is running a system without a heatsink/fan of some type?
20 years professionally in IT and i've never had a CPU "burn up" be it Intel or AMD.
I'm sure it has happened.....but I struggle to accept that this is by any means common.
At a certain point users have to accept some accountability.
I even had a water cooler spew it's guts all over my main board and it didn't kill my CPU. (FX-9590) Motherboard was trashed but not the CPU, and no idea how long it stayed powered on.
I'm just not buying this without some SERIOUS context.

And?

Some systems don't have fans directlly over the cpu/heatsink for cooling..

those were built to do that in the 90's are you referring to them? can you englighten me with a model i can look at?
i was referring to fan faliure is that an issue?
