No one can help you if you can't tell us the exact problem you are having. So what you are trying to do, and what is the game doing? What errors are you getting?

That page isn't just fixes for Steam and GOG, the patches can run on the retail version. The retail version needs to run in XP as it uses SafeDisc which was killed off in Vista.

The game wants a Pentium 2/3, everything you listed is much faster. You'll need to go through the fixes on the page.
