Hello!

I bought an Asus CUV4X-D, socket 370.

https://www.anandtech.com/show/816/6

In the above link, CUV4X-DLS......

It's a dual socket board.

Right now, I don't have 2 coolers from the same model.

I found 2 brand new Titan Titan CU5TB, very very good price.

https://www.frostytech.com/articles/1159/index.html

Do you think it's too heavy for the mobo?

We are talking about 2lbs of weight, together, If I'm not wrong.

Thank You!!

That's a lot of weight (suspect beyond both the socket & processor max specs), especially if it only has the centre socket tab attachment strap - would be better if it was the CU5TB/F with the triple tab strap.

Pentium 3 CPUs don't realy need beefy coolers.
Sometimes, out of laziness, I even use late socket 7 coolers to test Pentium 3 Coppermines, and temperatures are still more than decent.
A cooler like this one (ebay link removed) is perfectly fine and very lightweight (you just need to add a 60mm fan on it and you're good to go).

Agree with both of you.

As we are in 2021, and since it's hard to find a brand new and shine cooler, I'm thinking about this specific model, cause it's new and very low price.

This is the reason!!

But I agree that I don't need a cooler like this, you're right.

Fortunately, looking again, the model is CU5TB/F, like PC Hoarder Patrol Offline mentioned.

I can buy 2 of these for less than $4 USD, with included shipping.

I'll think about it, a little more.

THank you, mates!

If you don't handle the PC much the coolers shouldn't be too heavy.
The one in the test only even usesone mounting hook.

I say go for it! 😃👍

Yes, the PC will stay quiet, in his place!

Titan CU5TB/F is brand new, beautiful and it's costing less than $2 USD.

Hard to resist!

I'm thinking about buy 4, cause I have a socket 462 system too.

it will be fine, MOST LIKELY. the socket is rather strong.

That said, I never store or ship any of my systems with the heatsinks in place. If you are concerned, then I would suggest using a desktop computer case, not a tower.

I even do this on my new gaming system, I got a case where the motherboard connections are at the top. The video card cant sag if its vertical!

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

^Agreed @lb - my main concern was the retention strap being single point only. I've a few dual skt370 boards currently using coolers of a similar weight (of solid copper coated with silver) but they have the triple point strap - the Akasa Silver Mountain v1 (the v2 is even heavier at 1.25lbs), although I've long since replaced the near 7000RPM fans!

The official max weight for a HSF for s370 was 180 grams.
For sA it was something like 300 grams, even though the sA Athlons always seemed somewhat more fragile.

And I agree with the triple tab strap HSFs being more preferable 😀

If memory serves me, those Titan heatsinks weighed a lot and had a rather noisy fan. the performance was not the best either. But for that money ....

Agree with you, but it's not easy to find brand new socket 370 coolers in 2021.

So I'm buying it cause it's , at least, an average cooler, and it's newwww.

I'll try to deal with the noise.

Maybe, replacing fans, or soldering a resistor.

Yes, I knew these technical data, but we can think positively:

sA Athlons seemed more fragile, as you said, and the maximum weight is 300 grams.

If S370 is really not so fragile, than 450 grams will work.

😀

For all we know, sA Athlons were more commonly found with chipped bits because people used heavier coolers on these 😜

I remember seeing my first socket A board that had the 4 mounting holes. I recall thinking, "man, why would someone get such a heavy heatsink as to use one of these...". Then I see Zalman making those giant copper flowers and it made perfect sense.

There are better coolers. Supposedly the king of heatsink makers still has a stockpile of socket 370/462 coolers: https://www.alphanovatech.com/en/cat_pfe.html#spec_pal

I'd order some myself, but I already have a dozen.

Do you mind sharing where you found the cooler?
My buddy and I are looking for the same cooler.

Amazon, in Brazil.

Bought 3, with free shipping.

Total cost was around USD 5.
