Believe ALI Aladdin V and VIA Apollo MVP3 would be contenders for top chipset.

Boards with Sis530 should support 133MHz FSB with 1/4 divider for PCI. I think that no other socket7 chipset can do that.

140Mhz sticks in my mind as the highest seen "back in the day" I think that was on an Ali Aladdin board, not sure which, boards varied where they topped out though, o/c lottery, also not all CPUs would cope with the overspec FSBs even with low multi set either.

The only officially official top speed was 100. Then others went down the scale to unofficially unofficial which is undocumented and not marked on the board hidden settings.

Interesting, wonder if the 5AX is faster because it's slower (More built in latency and wait states meaning it runs higher clocks without barfing)

i think the ga-5ax has 512kb cache, the ones at the top of the list likely have 1mb

( edit) sorry i didnt read your post properly. what do you mean faster? it's in the middle of the benchmarks on those lists.

also i daresay that this list may not be accurate today with updated BIOSes.

I mean those tests are at stock FSBs so if something is tuned so tight as to be the fastest in that test, it might not have any headroom to be run at higher FSB.

Worth noting the SIS540 (if you can find a stable non-gimped example) Was designed with 133mhz in mind but you need decent bios hacking skills to open up cache and memory timings or you pay the “SIS Penalty “ with every timing set extremely conservative

Pretty sure I have at least 2. They are in my "I don't really want these" pile because they don't have AGP. Maybe I will have to actually test them out.

Not sure what "fastest" means, but for what it's worth, out of all my SS7 platforms (and, boy, do I have quite a few), I achieved the greatest performance with two Asus P5A rev 1.04 boards.
Both of them are fast and rock solid at up to 115 MHz FSB (FSB can go even higher than that, but they are not 100% stable in all circumstances).
One of them (which is currently my fastest SS7 PC) has an AMD K6-3+ 400 overclocked @ 633 MHz (5.5 multi x 115 Mhz FSB) + GeForce 2 GTS, and the other one has an AMD K6-2+ 570, OC @ 616 MHz (5.5 x 112 MHz) + Voodoo 3 3000 AGP. Both of these are pretty incredible as far as SS7 speed goes, and can run games that I wouldn't even have dreamt of running two decades ago on my poor original AMD K6-2 500 MHz PC with a no-name board.
I'm actually searching for a Gigabyte GA-5AX, because I've heard many good things about it and I really want to compare its performance to the Asus P5A. Alas, I have yet to find one for a decent price. 🙁

Did the Intel 233mhz MMX run on the FSB at 100mhz? i had a super 7 with one when the K6 cpu died (ran hot and much faster one than these)
I remember it was almost identical in performance for me so i wonder if its a simular tale to the intel overdrive generation
Mine was the Ali Alladin chipset version i forgot the rest of the oem info. -only wrong agp card killed it r.i.p 2003

What you do with those SiS boards is sell one kidney and buy the K6-3+ 550 and 16 chip huge RAM modules and then sell the other kidney and get a Voodoo5 PCI card.

I joke of course, but early AGP era, you're not losing a lot running PCI cards instead, and there's many era appropriate ones that only get rekt by the AGP in special cases. However those special cases probably also make things relatively slow on the AGP card in question also, so for enjoyment you should be playing the game on a whole different system.

Ehhh... I think have a K6-2+ 550 and a couple of the K6-3+ 450 CPUs. The K6-3+ 450 CPUs can do 600Mhz without even trying. I haven't even tried to see what the K6-2+ 550 can do.

I also have one of those PCI to AGP adapters that I could use with my V5-5500. Then again, I could always put the V5-5500 in a much faster system.

I don't know if there was official support, but some manuals say about the 133 MHz FSB with 1/4 divider. Unfortunately most motherboards come with only 512kb Cache. Sis540 have better built-in VGA. Maybe ALi Aladdin 7 is most advanced

The "fastest" SS-7 board that I have personally run is an ASUS P5A-B at 124mhz fsb and 310 mhz cpu clock(PMMX-x2.5multiplier).
As far as I can remember the settings are max'd and there's no error in MemTest5.31. Never got any board to make it through MemTest at 133mhz fsb without throwing up errors.
