v0.7 introduced the "core=auto" and "cycles=auto" options, which is great, but is there a way to actually know what does it use in a given game?

For "cycles=auto", at worst I can at least use ctrl+f11 and ctrl+f12 and therefore know indirectly.

There's no 0.6.7 jfi.
Read the comments in dosbox.conf and look at the window title of dosbox.

I meant v0.7

Please, the CONF file just says it's automatic...

The title says "max" for the cycles and nothing for the core.

The logic is the same, realmode -> normal core, pmode -> dynamic core.

Where do you see "realmode" or "pmode" in the title? I just see "Dosbox 0.70, Cpu cycles: X, Frameskip Y, Program: Z". The status window too mentions nothing about the core.

Besides, don't forget there's also a "simple" mode.

Your question was quite confuse thus i pointed at the window title displaying
the current cycles mode the auto guessing switched to.

Simple mode doesn't exist.

I have no idea what you just said.

But

[cpu]
# core -- CPU Core used in emulation: normal, simple, dynamic, auto.

Those are the cores, right. Now?

If you run a protected mode game/app, core=auto automatically switches the core used to dynamic, whereas with real mode games/apps, the core being used will be "normal".

That's it, at least as far as I (And I'm only an "Alpha Tester" 😉 😉 ) have understood this.

As I'm playing with it, it seems to me if auto is dynamic, then cycles are in percents (where "max"=100%) and if auto is normal, then cycles are in static numbers (the default is 3000).

Is this the way to know what's auto?

And what about the "simple" core (see above quote from the CONF file)?

No, that's the way to know when the core guessing switched from
the normal core to the dynamic core or back.

And what about the "simple" core (see above quote from the CONF file)?

Has nothing to do with this.
