hello i have the sb awe64 ct4520, and it turn very silent (have to turn volume all the way up to hear somthing) that both in win98se and dos. i recap but same issue any ideas?

Try using a different jack (green or black). One of them is amplified, the other is not, and I forget which is which.

Also make sure the volume is all the way up in MIXERSET (though it should only affect DOS; Windows has its own volume control).

hello and thanks for reply. green and black are outputing audio but both are very silent.

could be the chip in the red cyrcle be the issue?

I think you may have uploaded the wrong image, no red circle.

I would be checking the capacitors and resistors that connect to the sound out ports before I suspect a dead IC.

To me it sounds like a bad capacitor.

ive already recap all capacitors near the exits. what else should i try?

believe it or not the problem wasnt the awe64. it was a cold solder in the -12v cable from the psu when i redo the point the card works ok. what a bummer
