Greetings all. I am a new DOSBox user and I need help getting Star Trek: Judgment Rites to run. I have read the readme and searched the forums in hopes of a quick fix, without success. I have read that STJR is 100% supported/playable on DOSBox .70, so obviously the problem is with my system or the way I am entering commands. I read on one forum that I have to mount my CD drive first. Here's what I have done thus far:

mount d d:\ [d is my actual disc drive]
mount c c:\intrplay -t cdrom -usecd 0

With both drives mounted, I head to c:\, switch to directory "trek2" and then enter the executable, "trekjr". The program starts with the Interplay logo fading in and out temptingly... Then nothing else happens.

After Googling and forum reading, I tried the following:
* Altered config file to CPU Cycles = max. No change.
* Boosted frame rate skip to 10 (Ctl+F8 during the logo fade in). No change.
* Switched the core setting in the config file from "auto" to "dynamic" after reading that worked for someone else. No change.
* Checked Sound Blaster settings... Mine do not appear to be different from anything recommended.

The infuriating part is remembering that I had this same problem when I bought the game in '95 and I can't remember how I fixed it.

Any suggestions are welcomed. If more info is needed on my system setup, please let me know what to post.

Thank you very, very much...

You are mounting the wrong way. If D: is your CD-ROM drive, then you should mount:

mount d d:\ -t cdrom

not c:.
Did you install the game from inside dosbox? If not, you should...

Gulizoka, thank you for the tip on mounting the drives properly. I had installed the game through DOSBox also.

Lucky for me, a friend of mine who is a DOSBox user found the problem this evening -- I simply did not have my sound settings entered correctly. For the benefit of other newbies, the correct settings are Sound Blaster for both music and effects with port=220, IRQ=7, DMA=1.

Hooray for simple fixes. I'm looking forward to finally playing Judgment Rites and more of my old favorites through DOSBox...!

I'm trying to get this game running now. I've tried the things mentioned in this tread but it still just goes to a black screen after the Interplay logo. Does anyone know how I can get it to work, the standard version of the game starts right away but the special edition with the voices just refuses to work.

I got it working now. The thing I had done wrong was that I had run the game installer through windows and not dosbox.
When I ran the installer with dosbox the game started. Also I had to copy the content of the cd to a folder and mount that as a CD drive in order to be able to save the game. Now it works perfectly ecept for a bit of lag that can be fixed by frameskip.

Yep that's always the best thing to start with, as it keeps the installation consistent.
