I bought a Sound Blaster AWE32 that came with a CSP chip installed. This the first socketed chip I own as on all of my other cards it is either absent or is soldered directly to the board.

I noticed that the sides of the socket are bowed out slightly. I've never seen this on any socketed chip before. Does anyone else have anything like this on any of their Sound Blasters?

Yeah, that's quite common for sockets of that type, especially on stuff like video card RAM sockets.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

I guess it's not as unusual for the larger sockets; this is the first one I've seen in person where one has been populated. Smaller PLCC sockets don't seem too have this issue.
