which is better ati radeon 9600 se or geforce 3
which is better ati radeon 9600 se or geforce 3
Both.
I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.
so does that mean that ati radeon 9600 se could be littel bit faster than geforce 3

The 9600 SE is closer to the GeForce 4 Ti 4200/4400 in speed, the 9600 XT is about the same as the Ti4600/4800, the main advantage of the 9600 is that its a DX9 GPU.
so yet ati radeon 9600 se is closer to the GeForce 4 Ti 4200/4400 and it little more faster than geforce 3
SE has 64-bit memory interface, they cannot keep up with GeForce 4 Ti.
depends what motherboard it's going in. Bus bandwidth is basically irreverent if you are putting it in something like a P3 800mhz. When I tested a 128bit vs a 64bit Geforce 440mx there was no difference. In a p4 you would probably notice.

Its close but sits between the GF3 and GF4 till it hit memory limits and then its slower. I guess it also depends on what OP wants to do with it, for DX9 its really the only choice here as GF3 and GF4 are DX8.
Personally the Geforce 3 Ti500 is a really nice GPU and if I had that and the 9600se ..I would be using the Ti500.

Ehm... maybe if you strictly have to choose between these, then at least the 9600SE does Dx9. But it's slow so the only saving grace it has is that it's able to run early DX9 games in DX9 mode with playable frame rates if you compromise on other settings.
I wouldn't recommend anything slower than Geforce 6600 or Radeon X700 for early DX9.

I agree with you here, the OP hasn't said what they want to do with the GPU and as you mentioned the SE isn't the best option, for anything more powerful than a P3 I would get a newer GPU but for a P3/P2 it would be ok since its never going to saturate the 64bit memory bus as neither CPU can push enough data to the card.
