People are already working on getting *nix and Windows to boot natively on M1 Macs.. 😀
But even at the moment, a virtualized Windows 1x for ARM runs excellent on M1.
Even if legacy x86/x64 applications are run.
So let's don't underestimate the significance of what Apple did here.
The whole design is (r)evolutionary.
As far as I understand, both CPUs and GPUs can access the same memory at full speeds.
And then there's the built-in interconnect to othet dies..
Hopefully, other manufacturers will recognize that potential and create ARM-based motherboards for PC.
This would once again make things interesting! 😃👍
Perhaps giving birth to a new wild wild west PC ecosystem like that of the 80s/90s.
Would be interesting. With lots of proprietary, yet creative solutions and copy cats at every corner. 😁
