I'm looking at early boards which support CrossFire/SLI and I find that it's very hard to find board where both PCIe x16 slots are actually x16. It's common to see the secondary slot either x8 or x4. Doesn't it negate the advantages of SLI if both cards are unable to perform optimally? Was this ever a problem at its inception or did it become a problem later?
At era would a pair of cards (ATI or NVIDIA) start to experience problems if one of the two slots in a PCIe 1.1 slot is either x4 or x8?
