Heyas

i was able to get alot of games working again 😀

i however, have no sound in some games

keen 1,2 and 3 - raptor - i also have no music playing zone 66

i know i need the gravis patches for raptor, and im sure i have installed them right. but it still doesnt work

i was hoping someone with more experience could assist me

Well if not even keen works i'd suggest checking your sound card,
sound card drivers, speakers etc.

So the keen123s don't produce any sound? That would be really odd,
maybe your copy is corrupt/missing some files.
About raptor, be sure you configure the sound (sb 220/7/1) and the
settings are saved.

i have those settings set for SB for Raptor
i will reinstall those keen games then and see if that helps

not exactly on topic, but im sure your aware that all of the Build engine games such as blood and duke3d dont work very well with DOSBox. there laggy and unstable. why does it say DOSBox has full support for them when almost everyone has this problem

The 500 mhz computer can play duke 3d with 6000 cycles and 10 frameskip on dosbox 0.70 with very good performance.

well, i play duke3d and shadow warrior using a native win32 sourceport
so dosbos isnt needed for those, but i still have blood and redneck rampage that have this issue. people who use dosbox for duke3d and shadow warrior have the same issues, so this must be an issue with how dosbox emulates them

i will take a look at those settings though for my other build games
EDIT: those settings made blood much worse, i havent tested redneck rampage yet

Where did you get that "everybody has that problem"?
What dosbox version are you actually using and on what system?

have you red the comments under those games on the dosbox site? you will see that those who posted have these problems

iv also seen people say it searching the net on dos game sites

im using dosbox 0.70, my system:
3Ghz P4
Geforce 6600 GT 1280x1024@85hz
2Gb DDR400
Sound Blaster Augidy 2 ZS
Windows XP

i would also like to note that i run all my games full screen at that desktop resolution

Most of these reports are from before the 0.70 release.

You are aware that dosbox emulates a processor, graphics card,
sound card, other pc components and stuff? Comparing it to a source
port is quite useless. If it's too slow for you either your pc is misconfigured
(it should run duke3d in 800x600 at 20+fps) or get your hands on the
dosbox sources and make it faster. Good luck.

i wasent comparing it to a source port, i was just saying that i run those games in sourceports

i am aware of that it emultaes pretty much everything, which is why i think i must not have configured something right in the emulator. which is the kind of help im looking for. i will note that running blood in dynamic core doesnt make it lag at all, however it freezes shortly after

if my pc was misconfigured, im sure this would be an issue with other games, which it is not.

That's odd. Works fine here, blood in several flavours.
Anyways if you're running build games with the normal core it's no
wonder if they are slow. But misconfigured hits it then as you changed
the default dosbox settings.
If you need high resolutions for build games any source port is a good
recommendation. They are surely a lot of faster and can provide dedicated
options/configurations.

i agree, but blood and redneck rampage dont have source ports
i use the DOG frontend, which may have set some settings to non defaults
what settings do you use then for blood? that would cause it slow down if misconfigured

are you saying it might run better if i reduced the resolution? ill try that

any other suggestions for the sound problem with raptor?, i checked those settings and they are just like that

EDIT: take a look at this here, it shows it trying to load sounds and music, but it has a "(None)" beside them. could that mean anything?

Well core=auto and cycles=auto should be enough, when exactly does
it crash? Does it crash as well if you disable sound?

are you saying it might run better if i reduced the resolution? ill try that

Start with vesa 640x480, that should run at acceptable speed for blood/redneck.

Well it looks like the settings aren't saved. Have a look at the file
permissions, clear all readonly or whatever attributes. Browse the
contents of setup.ini after configuring the sound with setup.exe

actually, it used to crash, sorry 😀 it doenst now for some reason using dynamic core

its still a bit slow, and the graphics seem to flicker alot
ill check it out with your suggested settings and see

i will attempt to configure the sound for raptor in its setup.exe
should i use the settings that doxbox uses?

EDIT: using your settings for blood have made it much better, but the it does freeze for few seconds sometimes, but it will unfreeze after that this time. graphics seem to still flicker

EDIT2: i have gotten sound working in raptor after setting it up to use gravis
i didnt think that the games needed these things anymore since doxbox did this, but i was wrong 😀 thanks for your help. now i must install those keen games again to see whats wrong with them

EDIT3: i managed to get keen 2 and 3 but not 1 working with sound. im stumped again 😀

redneck rampage is working great, just blood that has a few glitches

EDIT: it seems the more i tweak the better it gets, blood almost perfect
just a few freezes here and there
