So I've had the first attempt to install windows 98 on this machine. It has Intel 915G chipset and from what I've found out and there are drivers that should be working.
Anyway - during installation if Windows, there is a step when it restarts - and after that it didn't want to continue installation - I got into safe mode (not sure what is the proper translation) and installed chipset drivers - then after restart, installation went on and finished. But the system will not load - hangs at pretty much the same place. I've tried with additional graphic card and the one that is built in. Safe mode runs fine and shows no errors among hardware - also seems chipset drivers are loaded.
I've noticed one odd thing - my single memory stick of 512MB is shown as 504MB (same in Memtest - but short run shows no errors).
Is there anything I'm missing - a BIOS setting that should be changed/disabled or maybe I should use PATA HDD instead of SATA? I was trying to find some hints, but everywhere I've found that it should be running fine - and I cannot even get to Windows.
