There's little to no background noise on this system with either AudioPCI or SB Awe32 installed playing "real" adlib mode.

Under Dosbox, all adlib music is quite fuzzy and somewhat distorted, regardless of the game selected.

I've left the dosbox configuration file at defaults, and the games play quite well, but they all suffer from this audio hiss.

Changing audio rate to lower values (or to 48000) changes the overall quality of the OPL emulation but has no impact on amount of background hiss.

Blocksize and pre-buffer have no affect.

Everything sounds fine through my windows 10 laptop unsurprisingly.

Seems silly to even bring it up here, but perhaps someone has some insight on why OPL emulation sounds so awful under Windows 98...

For what it's worth, I switched to the "megabuild" and enabled OPL passthrough to my Awe32. Everything sounds fantastic now.

I'm currently getting 24.11 fps in doom timedemo demo3 which puts it up into the 486 DX2/50 range.

It feels about as fast as the DX2/66 I've got sitting on my desktop in all the games I've tried, so that's really a phenomenal result in my opinion.
