Hello to everyone,

I want to replace a really old computer that works on W98 and uses a CP1413 which uses an ISA slot. This CP is used to communicate with TI505 automation using H1 network. I was thinking in using a new computer and trying to use this old hardware with a new software or a VM:

- The drivers of this CP only works on W98 or below.
- The program that I am using, doesn't work with newer cards like CP1613 (I know that there are newer software from company FasTrak softWorks, but the communication using this software and the new card is too slow).
- I red here that there are some adapters from ISA to PCI, but it wouldn't work because of the chipset of the motherboard or at least it would be difficult.

So, I found that there are modern motherboards like MS-98L9 V2.0 that has an ISA slot, but I don't know if I will be able to install W98 directly with this board. Or will I be able to install a VM with W98 and using the CP1413 connected to this card, will it work?

I know that trying to do this will face a lot of problems, but if someone can helps I will apreciate it!

Thanks in advance

For the VM, you will want to use VMWare Workstation.

As far as putting Win98 on it directly, you could probably get it working. You would need to use the R.Lowe RAM patch though.

The ISA slot on that board does not support DMA or PnP from what I can find.

What does that card you want to use require?

Yamaha modified setupds and drivers
Yamaha XG repository
YMF7x4 Guide
Aopen AW744L II SB-LINK

If its possible I prefer using a VM instead of installing the OS directly.

Ok, so if I use VMWare it will be able to use the CP connected to the isa slot?

By requiere you mean if the card will need DMA or PnP? I know that it uses IRQ, but I don't know if it is related with what you asked.

Thanks for your time!
