With one of my laptops running Windows 10, I've had this annoyance for as long as I can remember: when connected to an external display, every time it would transition from desktop to any full-screen mode and back to desktop, the desktop icons would all be rearranged.

A couple of clicks through Desktop Restore's shell context menu would get it all fixed, but it was still annoying. Tried messing with GPU settings, drivers, all sorts of other settings - nothing helped.

A few days ago I've finally upgraded the OS from 1909 to 21H2, along with a few other updates that came along with it. Lo and behold - the problem seems to have disappeared. Now I wish I had done it sooner. 🤦

One of the few times a "lol" literally is one.

My pretty much default windows 10 installation since day one never changed the lock screen background. It always had this lake photo with the red backpack in the corner. No registry tweaks, suspect tools or nerdy actions. Just a fresh windows installation of a common "family" computer meant for browsing, reading emails and shopping. I noticed it a couple of weeks later but it wasn't a reason to start over. I thought ok maybe when I change the SSD and re-install... you know what I mean.

Well 6 years passed liked this and I recently got 21H2. First reboot and... a new lock screen background out of nowhere 😃
