I am trying to get MS Space Simulator to run, but it is doing the same thing that Windows XP Commnad Prompt does, which is put the name of the program and then the C:\ prompt. Here are my vitals:

Motherboard-ASUS A7V8Z-LA

Processor type and speed-AMD Athlon XP (B) 2800+ 2.08 GHz

Amount and type of RAM-512 MB 184 pin, DDR1-333 SDRAM

Video board w/ RAM amount and type-GeForce MX4000 AGP w/128MB RAM

Sound board-Soundblaster Audigy SE

Operating system-WinXP Home SP2

Game name (and version, if applicable)-MS Space Simulator

Description of problem (be detailed: saying "it's jerky" doesn't help, saying "the player sprites seem to be jerky when I'm pressing any of the arrow keys" does)-Game will not run upon installation, which may be the problem if I am not installing it right

Reproducibility of problem (always, only once, always but only on a specific level, etc.)-Always

Sound mode used-Have tried it with and without sound (docs for prg say it has to be Adlib compatible)

Video mode (Software, OpenGL, Direct3D, or Glide, and resolution)-have tried 300x240, 640x480

Version of emulator (for VDMSound, probably 2.0.4 or 2.1.0; for DOSBox, 0.58+)-Dosbox V 0.70

Steps already attempted to solve the problem (please say you've read the README if you haven't, and READ IT IF YOU HAVEN'T!)-have read the readme, have tried to run it after copying the files from the floppies (yes the program is on 3 floppies) and then running each disk's executable file.

If anyone has experience in the right settings to run this or how to install it right please help.

I have been trying to get this to run because there is no decent space simulator around in Windows that can really emulate space flight like MS Space Simulator. Orbiter almost requires a degree in rocket science to run it, and I can't find anything in Celestia to simulate gravity. Also, officially Virtual PC will not run on WinXP Home, but according to the MS newsgroups it "should" run.

I'm at my wits end to get this to run without having to find a Win98 tower and run all the old programs on it. Your assistance is certainly appreciated.

I have no experience with that game specifically, but generally (see the 60 seconds guide in my signature), here is what you should do:

1) Create a directory on your hard drive that will act as the C-drive for DOSBox. For example, C:\DOS-games, but it can be anything, anywhere really.

2) Start DOSBox, and assign (mount) a C-drive:

Z:\>mount C "C:\DOS-games"

3) Insert the first diskette and assign it to DOSBox:

Z:\>mount A "A:\" -t floppy

Important: The first time you assign (mount) a diskette (or a CD for that matter), DOSBox will scan the media and remember which files that is on the diskette. This means, that when you insert the 2nd, and 3rd diskette, you need to press CTRL-F4 to force DOSBox to re-scan the media and re-build its view of what is on the diskette.

4) Switch to the diskette and start installing.

Z:\>A:
A:\>install

5) As the installation goes on, insert each new diskette as required and remember to press CTRL-F4 after each change of media.

😀 🤣 😁

It works!!!!

Thank you...I didn't realize how to mount a floppy...that was the only way the program would install...now i just have to get used to seeing it on our 19" widescreen monitor, fullscreen...
