You may consider looking for adapters from proper brands that use ASIX AX88772 which does have Win9x drivers, and are usually of better quality.

Additionally, unless USB is your only option for some reason, a cheap PCI or Cardbus (if laptop and compatible) could be an option.

Also, if you don't mind the lower performance of a USB 1.1 adapter, lots of branded options from the likes of Netgear (EA101) and others become available. Those often have Windows 9x drivers .

Unfortunately I don't have any free PCI slots. They are all busy.
The PC has both USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports because I have a USB 2.0 card.
So can you advise me specifically on suitable USB LAN adapters that support older Win95 and 98 operating systems? A thousand thanks.

Impossible. I have too many peripherals connected.
The only two USB 1.1s that are slow would not be enough for me.

What are your system specs? There's various reports on Vogons of USB2 cards slowing down systems, so you might be better off using a hub with your usb1 ports.

IBM 330 6577 - Intel Pentium 200MHz - 160MB Ram - Matrox G450 - 32GB CF adapter - Windows 98 SE.

According to Darry, an ASIX AX88772 device should be fine.
I had a look on ebay, but there seems to be no support for older operating systems.

I searched on ebay by entering this information, but I can't find anything.
The only one I find is Realtek RTL8150, but they are PCI cards and I can't use them.

I remember that they appeared on the market at the earliest. However it is still unknown what is inside. It would be ideal if the seller could check the VID and PID for you.

While I waited, some help. I found these drivers, specific for Win98SE, if in case they don't work, I can try the ones you recommended.

Now the installation went smoothly. As you can see from the photo, everything is recognized without errors and conflicts.
I must point out that the first time I plugged in the LAN cable, Windows crashed, forcing me to force the PC to shut down.
Once the PC is restarted, however, it does not connect.
So I went to manually enter the TCP / IP addresses for the card.
From the image, three appear, I have configured that of the device, however windows does not connect.
I have no idea how to set up the connection correctly.
Or, even if there were no problems, the drivers are not the right ones?

Actually, I didn't do anything, I just installed the drivers ....
If I do ipconfig/all the DHCP server sees it disabled.
I set the IPs manually and also the Gateway
But on DNS configuration, if I enter the google DNS, then it asks me for the HOST name and DOMAIN, I have no idea what to write there.
Even on WINS configuration I don't know what to set.

I have a DES-1005D switch, the IBM is connected to port 3 and it is on, it is on steady.
LAN cable checked on Windows 10, works great.
I moved the cable to part 2, same problem, the light comes on but is fixed.

Eventually I installed Windows 2000. I hope to have fewer problems with the adapter.
However now I am focusing on other problems, which arose after its installation.

Adapter installed. BUT same problem, I don't understand. On windows 10 it works here not .... Yet it is configured correctly.
Note: d-link des 1005d Switch this time lights up, but with yellow light, not green. This means a connection of not 100 but 10Mbps.

Both devices are installed correctly. I used a program to identify the hardware.
The drivers are correct, both those of Nilox (manufacturer Asix Electronix) and Kingleen (manufacturer Kontron Industrial Computers Source).
The Switch reports that kingleen has a 10Mbps connection speed, while the Nilox goes at 100Mbps.
