Got this bad boi today! Looks badass with this color combination (will fit perfectly my Riotoro case).
Can't wait to get home and start playing with it. 😁

Question for @dreamblaster: If the McCake is plugged in to your Chill V adapter board, is there a way to use the optional audio input jacks?

I'm not sure if mt32pi has an audio mixing capability but I'm curious if the hardware would even allow that.

You will have to wait for @dreamblaster 's confirmation to be sure, but if the Chill V is like the Chill III in this respect and if my understanding is correct, the optional line input is meant to be used only with waveblaster daughterboards that have line input capability (the McCake is not one such daughtercard, AFAIK) :

https://serdaco.com/files/CHILLIIIQuickSolder … nstructions.pdf (page 7)

OPTION : Line in connectors
Some waveblaster cards, like NEC 386 / DB60XG support effects processing on line in.
CHiLL III can be expanded with line in connectors, to support this feature :

yes the line in is only for specific cards with line in, like the NEC 386 / DB60XG
other cards, also mccake (mt32-pi) dont support this

Perfect, thank you for the quick response. That is exactly what I wanted to know.

Someday I'll stumble across a DB50XG board I can keep. I have it's standalone big brother, the SW60XG but I find the ISA requirement to be pretty limiting.

@dreamblaster, I love the McCake though. It's such a delightful addition to my 486.

*would not mind a trade of SW60XG for a TB60XG* the ISA aspect is exactly why it is interesting to me 🤣

Hey, could someone provide some support with the McCake?

I installed mine on a YMF719E-S Yamaha soundcard. If I setup a game to use it as a midi device and then test it, it might work for a short while. But then it starts going crazy by playing random sounds all the time (it sounds like an orchestra warming up...), even while the PC is rebooting.

Am I doing something wrong? Is it broken? Or not compatible with this soundcard?

EDIT: I switched out the YAMAHA soundcard with another 719 model and now the McCake works just fine. So happy now. My comp needs 2 more fixes and I can finally call it complete 😀

I have one running on a YMF719B-S and I don't have this issue.

What do you have in terms of CPU, and how are you configuring the sound card?

I actually have an SB Vibra 16 and the YMF719 in the same PC and switch between different configurations with Unisound.

Thanks for your reply. I'm currently in contact with dreamblaster and am testing a few things. If it doesn't work I might have to send it back. But right now I wanna check out first if it's not a config issue.

I have a creative live 5.1 in my system as well. As soon as I chose the MPU as a the midi device under windows and as soon as I start a game with midi sound, things go crazy. And they stay like that until I shut down the PC.

The PC is a Pentium 3 1Ghz, Asus P3B-F 440 BX Motherboard by the way

Is there anything I should try in terms of settings? Different drivers?

Try using fluidsynth to play back using a SoundFont rather than MT32-Pi and see if you have the same issue. 1GHz might just be too fast, the MT32 was in its element in the 386 and earlier. With the final days happening during the 486.

I have mine connected to a P233MMX, but any of the games I use it with have me slowing down the machine.

There's a command line utility I can't find at the moment. It lets you switch MT32 revision or Fluidsynth SoundFonts by sending MIDI messages. This also forces a reload of the MT32 Pi software which might let you stop it without doing a full shutdown.

I suppose this is the utility you were talking about:

Interesting tool! Thanks for the link from me, too. 😀 👍
If I only knew how to compile my own binary from that source with Visual C++ 6..
Anyway, that's another story. 😅
